Carbon Dating the Turin Shroud (C2C Coast to Coast)

23:42
Turin Shroud, Carbon Dating. Separating the facts from the fudge once and for all. This is an excerpt from an interview with official shroud photographer and expert Barrie Schwortz (http://www.shroud.com) speaking about the radiocarbon dating of the shroud of Turin and how subsequent peer-reviewed scientific findings invalidated the premature conclusions drawn from the test results of the 1988 C14 dating. Deviant, unscientific methods were used in collecting the test samples violating the protocols previously agreed to. All three lab samples came from a single postage stamp-sized cut which happened to be from a medieval patch that had been woven into the shroud which had previously been advised about not to be sampled from. The carbon-dating was accurate, the samples were not and did not represent the chemical composition of the main part of the shroud. Bad science begets bad results however it does make good propaganda in the media echo chamber which gladly ignores the hundreds of other scientific and historical data points that indicate authenticity not to mention the inexplicable nature of the shroud image that defies any modern scientific explanation and all attempts to recreate the image despite yet more hollow claims perpetuated by mass media and the popular ignorance of the day. The hard scientific facts will matter not one iota to the beliefs of militant atheists and secular fundamentalists (pseudo-skeptics of the day), simply because said beliefs were never founded on such, but rather bitter emotions, self-deception, vast ignorance (accentuated by immense arrogance), attitude, shallowness, historical-illiteracy, naivety, lack of discernment, gullibility, self-deception, hostility and hatred for all things Christian (which for them, like science, cannot be distinguished from imitations and counterfeits for many of the same reasons). It's only fitting that real science should support the scriptures for it is the scriptures themselves that inspired nearly all the founders of the modern fields of science to begin with as they themselves declared and often lectured and wrote about, including Newton, Faraday, Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Mendel, Pasteur, Kelvin, Boyle, Planck, Cuvier, Linnaeus, Maxwell, Ray, Boyd, Bacon, Pascal, Steno, Joule, Morse, etc, etc. this also makes sense of why none of the founders of the modern fields of science were ever Atheists (MAYBE there's a rare exception somewhere???). Atheists can only leech off the Christian establishment of science, imitate science, and claim it as their exclusive territory while simultaneously attacking the very belief system that developed it, namely, a logical, transcendent Creator of the Laws of Nature whose handiwork declares his brilliance and beckons us to more and more discovery -- "thinking God's thoughts after him" as Kepler put. How Old, A song on radiocarbon dating

05:34
When an archaeologist digs down The strata exposed preserve in the ground Things on top are young, bottom is old-er But this is relative, sometimes we need to know And radiocarbon dating Is how we measure this Up to 50,000 years ago We can absolutely know, how old How old? Every living thing upon the earth Is full of radioactive isotopes They creep into our teeth, into our bones And when we die we know just where they go And radiocarbon dating Is how we measure this Up to 50,000 years ago We can absolutely know, how old How old? Within a range the dates reveal age But contamination is a dangerous game And things like stone are not organic remains So to date its best to use a multitude of ways like: Potassium-argon, dendrochronology Typologies, frequency seriations Thermo luminescence shines But in the end, Carbon-14 is mine! Determining age is a big question When thinking of changes like migration Perhaps the biggest piece of evidence To tell the story of which way people went And radiocarbon dating Is how we measure this Up to 50,000 years ago We can absolutely know, how old How old, How old, How old?

The only thing about them which is scientific. is the estimated decay rate, and even this is speculative since it is verified that the speed of light is decaying (reducing) and thus also the decay rate of radioactive materials is also decaying (reducing). Consider All the Dating Methods

03:21
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." How old is the universe? Evolutionary scientists talk about how radiometric dating methods prove the universe and the Earth are billions of years old. Let's look at all the methods scientists could use. There are well over 100 methods available! There are thousands of scientists who prefer other methods that offer younger ages for our world and universe. Those few methods -- out of over 100 -- that evolutionists prefer are not very exact. Sometimes evolutionists will actually get a negative age for something using one of their preferred methods. In other words, the same method that shows that some object is a billion years old may show that some other object doesn't even exist yet! The fact is, more dating methods prove, just as scientifically, that the world is less than 500 years old than prove it is more than a billion years old. Of over 100 methods we know of -- giving results of anywhere from 100 years to billions of years -- 15 percent of all methods give a date of between 6,000 and 10,000 years for the age of the universe. That is a very powerful statistical argument for a young creation! We Christians should not allow evolutionists to intimidate us with scientific mumbo-jumbo. Our faith is in the Bible that God has given us. Those who promote evolution have their faith in their own reasoning abilities. The origins debate is religious. The religion revealed by God is challenging, head-to-head, another religion. That other religion, evolution, was hatched in some little human mind! Prayer: Dear Lord, it seems that we are more easily influenced by other people than we are by You. Help me to see more clearly with the eyes of faith so that I am not deceived by human illusions. Amen.

What is everything made of?

Amazing facts from neutrinos to supernovae, from the very big to the very small, from fusion to the empty space in atoms. This video tells what you, at the most fundamental level, are made of, set to Beethoven's ninth symphony, 'Ode to Joy'. Also includes a great compilation of nuclear bombs. Since the video is very short and too fast for some, I recommend looking through this description to find out more and understand better what I have presented, through links that I recommend and some extra explanation. Videos about fusion as an energy source: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/steven_cowley_fusion_is_energy_s_future.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ9j2cajRo4 A video telling more about the briefly mentioned particles called neutrinos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md1CKUQp04Q If you didn't understand the importance of stars and supernovae, here is very simple explanation. Nearly everything (especially life) consists of atoms. Most kinds of atoms (elements) are formed by taking other smaller kinds of atoms and combining them together: this is called fusion or nucleosynthesis. This happens inside stars and supernovae, meaning that stars and supernovae (the deaths of stars as explosions) are essential to creating most elements, and these elements are essential for creating the Earth and life. For example, 90% of your mass consists of atoms originally formed in stars by fusion, and gold was made in supernovae. Supernovae are also important for spreading the atoms around in the universe, so even though the Earth and life could probably exist without the elements formed in supernovae, the supernovae are still essential. This video explains the subject well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKqvjEE0wFg A brilliant quote from Carl Sagan about the elements from stars in us: "the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." Here is a video by Carl Sagan on the subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UR2L_4ic6Y If you're confused about the section concerning neutrons and nuclear bombs, let me explain. In atoms, neutrons can often vary slightly in number without affecting anything. Neutrons prevent the positively charged nucleus from 'flying apart', and hence they are essential to atoms, but they do not affect chemistry and they generally don't interact with particles outside their own nucleus. However, there are exceptions where neutrons are important: radioactive decay, fusion and fission, which means that they play a very significant role in nuclear bombs, as well as nuclear energy, radiometric dating, medicine, and some other areas. The hardest part to understand may be about the empty space in atoms and in you. This very short video provides and excellent explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kypne21A0R4 If you're interested, here's a couple more facts: The supernova that produced the Crab Nebula was visible for 23 days in daylight, but in total (i.e. including nighttime) it was visible to the naked eye for 653 days. Protons and neutrons are each made up of 3 even smaller particles called quarks. There is a neutron star at the centre of the Crab Nebula called a pulsar. It spins at over 30 revolutions per second. Neutron stars are heavier than the Sun but typically only about 24 km across. A black hole is thought to be infinitely dense, even worse than a neutron star. It's sometimes said to be 'where God divided by zero'. There are a few technical details to address. Two clips show one star sucking matter from another before exploding: a type 1a supernova. Note that this is not the kind of supernova that produces heavier elements than iron (I think) or that produced the Crab Nebula. Also, it unfortunately turns out that copper, silver and some other elements heavier than iron can be produced in stars without supernovae occurring. Also, hydrogen and a little bit of some slightly heavier elements such as helium and lithium were formed in the Big Bang. Finally, there is some debate as to whether atoms are really mostly empty, or if it's more complicated than that. They are suggested to contain 'planck strings' or something else exotic. Please know that these are all scientific facts with little uncertainty. If you strongly doubt something, too bad.

Torah : Creation Years & Science Contradiction - Carbon Dating , Theories , etc... By: GABRIEL YAK Adams sin of eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil ... The world was spiritual before his sin, once he ate from the tree it became physical and death was brought into the world due to it. Spritual-first created world then after the sin it became physical and with death being possible... Science, "carbon-dating" (bullsh*t-dating) , DO YOU HAVE THE MEANS TO CHECK ACCORDING TO NATURE AS YOU ALWAYS SO-CALLED DO CHECK ACCORDING TO THE STANDARDS OF NATURE TO CHECK FOR ANYTHINGS YEARS OF EXISTENCE TO CHECK A SPIRITUALLY DEVELOPED CREATED WORLDS STANDARDS???? AND THEN TO CHECK THE ONCE SPIRITUALLY DEVELOPED CREATED TO ONCE IT TURNED PHYSICAL? I DONT THINK SO. MUST HAVE BEEN INFINATE SPIRITUAL LIGHT-YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT NO? Science? ???? Chico? I guess NOT. :P THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE. You missed out on very important facts so called "scientists" ... You did not hit this area honest to begin with. You wanted to mislead and then thought you can find a way to dig up years on a rocks existence for example.. I DONT THINK SO. YE THAT'S THE PROOF. Scientists, further mislead? Misleading Theories. Radioisotope Dating of Rocks: Challenging an Icon of Evolutionary Geology - Dr. Snelling Part 1

Dr. Andrew Snelling, one of the world's most respected Creation Scientists specializing in geological studies, joined Answers in Genesis in 2007 as the organization's new director of research, and also as a speaker for layperson and technical audiences. The addition of Dr. Snelling has further confirmed AiG's effort to meet the highest standards in its research in Creation studies. Dr. Snelling, who spent considerable time serving as a consultant in developing the AiG Creation Museum's large flood-geology room, becomes AiG's first full-time Ph.D. in the field of geology. Dr. Snelling earned his PhD degree in geology from the University of Sydney in Australia. Dr. Snelling has extensive experience working in the mining industry in Australia. One of his main areas of research has been the study of methods used in dating rocks, a key area of research for groups like AiG, which are convinced of a young age for the earth. Snelling's research, for example, has shown different radioisotope dates on the same rock samples. In addition, Dr. Snelling's research has indicated that radioactive decay rates must not have been constant in the past, citing the halos in rock crystals, which clearly show radioactive decay was accelerated sometime in the past ( See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGej0GQF5TQ ). Dr. Snelling's research has demonstrated that a global flood more than 4,300 years ago explains most rock layers and fossil deposits found around the world. Building from this foundation, Dr. Snelling has made predictions as to what should be found if a catastrophic global flood actually happened (e.g., the existence of extensive rock layers). Radioisotope dating has been used by the evolutions as the cornerstone of an old earth age and evolutionary theory. Not so says Dr. Snelling. Sunburn and the Carbon Cycle: How the sun taketh away what it has given

01:14:25
Dr. Larry Mayer -- University of Maine -- "Sunburn and the Carbon Cycle: How the sun taketh away what it has given" The sun provides the energy that makes virtually all life possible on earth. It fuels the creation of plants and animals, as well as controlling climate. Sunlight has a reverse effect as well, degrading the materials that come from life. Sunburn is our immediate experience with this process, though we see it as well in faded fabrics and other organic materials. The ocean is the world's largest repository of organic materials, because seawater is a kind of weak tea and the mud on the bottom is humus-rich. Sunlight is emerging as an important cause of degradation of these organic materials in the ocean, dissolving organic materials from mud and promoting oxidation of dissolved materials. Soils on land are also subject to this process. We study these reactions in the Mississippi River watershed and the Gulf of Mexico, by combining laboratory experiments, field measurements in the field, and satellite observations. Might these degradation reactions affect the exchange of carbon among the atmosphere, land and sea? Stay tuned. Dr. Mayer is a professor of oceanography at the University of Maine. Dwarka, India - 12,000 Year Old City of Lord Krishna Found - *Full*

Dwarka also known as Dwarawati in Sanskrit literature is rated as one of the seven most ancient cities in the country. The legendary city of Dvaraka was the dwelling place of Lord Krishna. It is believed that due to damage and destruction by the sea, Dvaraka has submerged six times and modern day Dwarka is the 7th such city to be built in the area. According to Hindu legend the god Krishna built a city which was ultimately destroyed by rising sea levels. Now archaeologists and Indian Navy divers are investigating underwater ruins at Dwarka on India's western coast, said to be Krishna's city. The new efforts, it is hoped, will settle the debate currently raging over the age and authenticity of the site near the Samudranaraya temple. Divers have collected blocks and samples which will now be dated. Traditional Hindu scholars referencing ancient Hindu scriptures believe the location to be very ancient, originally built many thousands of years ago. Such notions are, of course, vehemently rejected by establishment scientists though they are willing to concede that there is evidence indicating an age of as much as 3500 years. Of course the date when the city was destroyed would be long after the date of its inception, so a definitive maximum date has not been established. The new study is expected to resolve some of the issues. Archaeologists will now use the carbon dating technique to determine the exact age of the ruins. The earlier excavations, that first began about 40 years ago, had only revealed stones, beads, glass and terracotta pieces. Read More on the link above

To see all my Chemistry videos, check out http://socratic.org/chemistry Sometimes known as Beta minus decay or Beta emission, this process is related to Positron decay. An unstable atom takes a neutron and turns it into a proton, creating a high-energy electron known as a Beta particle. This makes the atom more stable. In this video, we learn the basics of Beta decay, and then write nuclear equations.

Archaelogists Discover Viking Burial Site

And inside the boat are the remains of a man, indicating the probability of the a Viking burial site. Archaeologists have unearthed a remarkable discovery of a Viking boat burial site in a remote western part of the Scottish Highlands. The find is particularly significant because of all the artefacts found at the site on the Ardnamurcham peninsula. Dr Oliver Harris from the University of Leicester described the find as something one only dreams about. [Dr Oliver Harris, University of Leicester]: "A Viking boat burial - the kind of thing you used to read about as a young boy at school, you know these incredible things. A boat filled with all sorts of weapons, the Viking himself, a beautiful bronze pin holding his cloak together. An axe, a sword, a spear, a shield, a cauldron with a meter-long handle. Just incredible things, all brought together inside this boat, buried in the ground in Ardnamurchan a thousand years ago." The scientists believe the man must have achieved high status in life because of the things that were buried with him. [Dr Oliver Harris, University of Leicester]: "These are grave goods that he's put with him and they're things that have gone into the ground with him. They probably belonged to him many of them, but certainly what they really tell us is about what did the people who buried him think of him, what did they want him to be remembered as and what did they think he would need for the afterlife, and they thought this guy would need weapons. He needed his axe, his sword, his spear, his shield; he needed things that he could defend himself with and attack others. So he was obviously someone of really high status to have all these different kinds of weapons. Not just a sword, not just an axe but all of these things together. Someone really, really important in his local community." Dr. Harris explains that the acidity in the soil decomposed most of the body. However, two teeth and a few bones are still undamaged. Dr. Harris believes it should be possible for radio carbon dating to be carried out as well as other tests, [Dr Oliver Harris, University of Leicester]: "The soil is very acidic generally in the west coast of Scotland and Ardnamurchan largely is no different from that. So a lot of the bodies rotted away, but luckily the teeth have survived and because of that and a couple of - two of the teeth and two bones - and because of that we can test - not only do radio-carbon dating which will help, adds to our knowledge of the date. We already know it's almost certainly 10th century AD, but we can maybe narrow that down with radio-carbon dating. But we can also do different kinds of tests. We've got isotope testing and archaeology. That'll help tell us what he was eating, where he came from, where he grew up and things like that."

Radiohalos: Evidence of Accelerated Decay, Part 1 - Dr. Andrew Snelling

Radiohalos: Evidence of Accelerated Decay & Catastrophic Geological Processes, Part 1 ** Part 2 located here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsfLaa2GE3s ** Presented 7-11-08 at Rocky Mountain Creation Fellowship. See http://www.youngearth.org/Meetings/2008_07_Andrew_Snelling.htm for more info. Snelling's research has indicated that radioactive decay rates must not have been constant in the past, citing the halos in rock crystals, which clearly show radioactive decay was accelerated sometime in the past. SSE Talks - Evidence Neutrinos affect Nuclear Decay - Peter Sturrock

19:30
http://www.scientificexploration.org ----------------------------------- Analyses of data acquired during two experiments at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and one at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Germany have yielded strong evidence for an annual variation of some nuclear decay rates. Since the Sun-Earth distance varies with an annual period, it is reasonable to suspect that some kind of radiation from the Sun may be playing a role. We have found that the low-energy solar-neutrino flux exhibits a periodicity of about 12 year-1, suggesting that the solar core rotates at this (synodic) frequency, which is slower than the rotation rates of either the convection zone of the radiative zone. If neutrinos play a role in influencing nuclear decay rates, the same periodicity may be manifested in decay measurements. We have therefore carried out power-spectrum analyses of measurements made at BNL over a 7-year interval of the decay rates of 32Si and 36Cl, and of measurements made at PTB over a 15-year interval of the decay rate of 226Ra. These analyses yield evidence for periodicities compatible with the estimated rotation rate of the solar core. These results pose challenging questions for nuclear physics and for solar physics. Do neutrinos affect decay rates? If so, what does that tell us about neutrinos? Furthermore, if beta-decay rates vary in time, this may influence the planning of medical radiation treatments. It may also affect estimates, based on carbon dating, of the dates of early events and ancient artifacts. Samples from, the SHROUD where cut nto thirds,

02:05
Visit our web site http://www.realdiscoveries.org/ CORNER SAMPLE ZONE BARRIE SCHWORTZ states Although in our photographs of 1978, even the regular white light photographs, there was a different colour in that area. But we weren't really that concerned about that part of the shroud, since we weren't thinking about radiocarbon dating in 1978, so we didn't pay that much attention to that corner. In 1988, that's the corner they sampled from, they took a piece and cut it into thirds, and each was distributed to the three laboratories that remained involved in the testing. So they took their sample, they did their testing, they came out with their results which was a medieval date, 1260-1390 I believe, and they with much fanfare went up on the television, and the media, and the world headlines were, "Shroud is a fake!" Sounds familiar? The common answer of the Doubting Thomases these days, when faced with the question of the Shroud of Turin, is to bring up the carbon dating. Three different teams of scientists tested a piece of the shroud and found that it was only seven hundred years old. It couldn't possibly have been the burial shroud of Christ. It isn't nearly old enough. You can't argue with that. It's science. Well you know what? We agree. And the original Shroud research team agree. And for a while it left them completely puzzled... BARRIE SCHWORTZ states So at the end of this period of 1999 when the results were announced, those of us who were involved with the study of the shroud from a truly scientific point of view were left scratching our heads and wondering, "how could this be?" In fact the answer was right infront of their eyes, or had been all those years ago when the team had a discussion about which part of the shroud to take for carbon dating. BARRIE SCHWORTZ states So interestingly enough, there was a two hour debate as they stood over the shroud as to where to take this single sample from. And ultimately it was decided to take it from a corner of the shroud They went away, none of them performed the chemical analysis that was called for by their own protocol, and when they were asked why the response was, "well we know which sample the shroud was, so we didn't need to do the chemical analysis." None of the three teams entrusted with carbon dating the Shroud sample followed their own protocol to make sure there was nothing wrong or unusual about the piece of the shroud they had chosen for their tests. At the time, and when news of the test results hit news stands around the world, nobody knew whether this oversight would have made any difference. But one man was determined to find out.

Low res - Parables vs Facts: Why we know the earth is older than 6000 years

05:19
I'm OK with your religious beliefs. Really, I am. But I'm not OK with those beliefs controlling policy or attempting to counter demonstrably proven facts about the universe. In this talk, I'll demonstrate (without the use of hard-to-understand things like carbon dating) how we know the universe is more than 6000 years old. Special thanks to George Hrab for the inspiration and initial research on this talk. He is, quite frankly, the man. This video was taken (thanks, Sean) at Ignite Phoenix After Hours #2. Sorry about the audio. Such is life when it's recorded in a night club, right? http://ignitephoenixafterhours.com
