Radioactivity (12 of ) Carbon-14 Dating, When did the Volcano Erupt?

08:17
This video explains the carbon-14 method for determining the age of an object containing organic material by using the properties of this radioactive isotope of carbon. Carbon has two stable non-radioactive isotopes, carbon-12 and carbon-13, and one radioactive isotope, carbon-14. The half-life of carbon-14 is 5730 years. Because of its relatively short half-life you might expect that its concentration in the atmosphere would be reduced over thousands of years but new carbon-14 is always being produced in the upper atmosphere by the interaction of cosmic rays, neutrons and nitrogen-14 atoms. Therefore the concentration of carbon-14 in the atmosphere is relatively constant. Plants and animals have the same concentration of carbon-14 as the atmosphere because they are constantly exchanging it with their environment. When they die, the carbon-14 in their bodies continues to decay, but they are no longer able to take up new carbon-14 and the concentration of carbon-14 in their bodies decreases. Knowing the concentration of carbon-14 at the time of death and the concentration of carbon-14 some time (t) after death enables you to determine how long it has been since the plant or animal died. Radioactivity (13 of ) Carbon-14 Dating, When Did Ötzi Die?

This video explains how the carbon-14 method is used to determine the age of Ötzi. Ötzi is a well preserved mummy that was discovered in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps of Italy. EXPOSED: Carbon Dating of Shroud..What Really Happened!

25:51
NEW! Carbon Date The Shroud Again! 2019 Video This video contains some of the best close up shots of the Shroud of Turin ever filmed. 41 mega pixel shots with a Nokia Lumia 1020 camera with Carl Zeiss Lens. There are some fantastic close up shots and pans. In this video we all unite and stand up together and defend the Lord Jesus and ask Pope Francis, “Please carbon date the Shroud again!” Pope Francis is the owner of the Shroud. He can authorize a new test. In this video we ask him to do just that! What happened in 1988 when the Shroud was carbon dated was a terrible injustice done to Jesus Christ the Lord! We ask Pope Francis to make this right for Jesus! The famous line from this video is “Anyone that would still defend the carbon dating after watching this video, would have to rank among the stupidest people to ever walk the face of the Earth” We learn how love is eternal and is more powerful than death. That is another message of the Shroud. "Love is Eternal" Skeptics preach the gospel of doubt and uncertainty and that death is more powerful than love. We offer people certainty and the GOOD NEWS that love is more powerful than death not the other way around, The Shroud being authentic is GOOD NEWS! Not BAD NEWS! We will close with a famous quote from Dr. Frederick Zugibe who spent 50 years of his life doing research on this cloth. When asked if he thought was authentic said “I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever” Jesus also taught us, Mathew 5:37 “Let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one. To offer people doubt and uncertainty is not helping anyone That is why we offer certainty. Certainty grants us sensation of joy and freedom at the highest levels. Don’t let yourself be stuck in the grey twilight that knows neither success nor failure. “Let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' May the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ the Lord rest upon you while watching this video!

كيفاش القضية ديال التأريخ بالكربون | واش حنا قدام ؟ | Radiocarbon dating

What is Carbon Dating? Carbon is one of the chemical elements. Along with hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur, carbon is a building block of biochemical molecules ranging from fats, proteins , and carbohydrates to active substances such as hormones. All carbon atoms have a nucleus containing six protons. Ninety-nine percent of these also contain six neutrons. The 6 proton + 6 neutron atoms are said to have a mass of 12 and are referred to as "carbon-12." The nuclei of the remaining one percent of carbon atoms contain not six but either seven or eight neutrons in addition to the standard six protons. They have masses of 13 and 14 respectively and are referred to as "carbon-13" and "carbon-14." If two atoms have equal numbers of protons but differing numbers of neutrons, one is said to be an "isotope" of the other. Carbon-13 and carbon-14 are thus isotopes of carbon-12. Isotopes participate in the same chemical reactions but often at differing rates. When isotopes are to be designated specifically, the chemical symbol is expanded to identify the mass (for example, 13C). Both 13C and 14C are present in nature. The former accounts for about 1% of all carbon. The abundance of 14C varies from 0.0000000001% (one part per trillion, a small, but measurable, level) down to zero. The highest abundances of 14C are found in atmospheric carbon dioxide and in products made from atmospheric carbon dioxide (for example, plants). Unlike 12C and 13C, 14C is not stable. As a result it is always undergoing natural radioactive decay while the abundances of the other isotopes are unchanged. Carbon-14 is most abundant in atmospheric carbon dioxide because it is constantly being produced by collisions between nitrogen atoms and cosmic rays at the upper limits of the atmosphere. The rate at which 14C decays is absolutely constant. Given any set of 14C atoms, half of them will decay in 5730 years. Since this rate is slow relative to the movement of carbon through food chains (from plants to animals to bacteria) all carbon in biomass at earth's surface contains atmospheric levels of 14C. However, as soon as any carbon drops out of the cycle of biological processes - for example, through burial in mud or soil - the abundance of 14C begins to decline. After 5730 years only half remains. After another 5730 years only a quarter remains. This process, which continues until no 14C remains, is the basis of carbon dating. A sample in which 14C is no longer detectable is said to be "radiocarbon dead." Fossil fuels provide a common example. They are derived from biomass that initially contained atmospheric levels of 14C. But the transformation of sedimentary organic debris into oil or woody plants into coal is so slow that even the youngest deposits are radiocarbon dead. The abundance of 14C in an organic molecule thus provides information about the source of its carbon. If 14C is present at atmospheric levels, the molecule must derive from a recent plant product. The pathway from the plant to the molecule may have been indirect or lengthy, involving multiple physical, chemical, and biological processes. Levels of 14C are affected significantly only by the passage of time. If a molecule contains no detectable 14C it must derive from a petrochemical feedstock or from some other ancient source. Intermediate levels of 14C can represent either mixtures of modern and dead carbon or carbon that was fixed from the atmosphere less than 50,000 years ago. Signals of this kind are often used by chemists studying natural environments. A hydrocarbon found in beach sediments, for example, might derive from an oil spill or from waxes produced by plants. If isotopic analyses show that the hydrocarbon contains 14C at atmospheric levels, it's from a plant. If it contains no 14C, it's from an oil spill. If it contains some intermediate level, it's from a mixture of both sources.

Most Amazing Archaeological Finds From Israel

10:06
Subscribe to Knowledge Feed for awesome mysteries, discoveries, fun topics and all around AWESOME videos ! 7. Philistine Cemetery In the Bible, there is frequent mention of tensions between the Israelites and the Philistines. In fact, the one of the most commonly referenced underdog tales of all time involves an Israelite, David, and Philistine, a giant named Goliath. The tale includes an incredible amount of detail concerning Goliath’s impact on the Israelites and subsequent death that the hands of David but gives no information on what happened to his collossial body following his demise. In fact, historians had no clue what happened to Philistines who died within Israel, as the two were enemies so routine burial seemed unlikely. In mid-2016, a team of archaeologists digging near Ashkelon, a city on Israel’s southeast coast, uncovered what they now believe to be an ancient Philistine cemetery. Found just outside of the city’s walls, the cemetery contained over two hundred individual skeletons and is believed to date from between the 8th and 11th centuries. Archaeologists are calling this find the missing link that finally filled informational gaps about the ancient Philistines. Select pieces are to be displayed at the Israel Museum segment, which is set to open at the Rockefeller. 6. An Ancient Structure In early 2006, a team of archaeologists discovered what was incorrectly called “proof of King David’s Biblical Existence” by various media outlets. The structure is actually believed to be nothing more than the four room home of an elite member of ancient Israelite society. Despite this, the find is still absolutely incredible, as it gives researchers a nearly perfect look into the lives of the Israelites. Nicknamed the “Governor’s Residence”, the home has four areas sectioned into rooms that contained over five hundred artifacts that were painstakingly removed from the residence to be studied. Carbon dating on two charcoals and an olive pit place the structure’s time of use at around the 11th century. Found in Tel ‘Eton, an area in the south of Israel, the home is placed within the top one percent of similar finds due to its enormous size. 5. King Solomon’s Palace In 2016, a group of archaeologists uncovered a palace that dated to the era of King Solomon, the last ruler of the United Kingdom of Israel. Found in the ancient royal city of Gezer, the massive structure is believed to be over three thousand years old, placing it in around the 10th century. Full of spacious rooms and two large courtyards, the palace is similar to other structures around the city but was much larger, making researchers believe that it was the home of a royal or social elite. A series of artifacts were found within the building, including Philistine pottery, pieces of a statue dedicated the bird faced deity Ashdod, a game box lid, a baby’s rattle, amulets, and a statuette of the Canaanite fertility goddess. It is believed that the structure had been abandoned prior to it being looted and levelled by an attack lead by Pharaoh Sheshonq I in 925BC. Some scholars believe the palace to have belonged to King Solomon himself, though this has not been proven. 4. An Eight Year Old’s Lucky Find In 2015, eight year old Itai Halpern of Pardesiya was on a daytrip with his parents in the Beit Shemesh area of Israel when he decided to pick up a random rock. After playing with it for a bit, the boy discovered that the stone was actually a hand carved, well detailed head. His parents snapped a photo and called authorities to report the find, launching what would be one of the most fortunate series of events in Indiana Jones obsessed boy’s young life. An expert in the Iron Age examined the fragment and discovered it was the head of the sculpture of a fertility goddess. Common in the homes of commoners under the rule of King Judah in the eighth century, the sculpture depicted a naked woman as a sort of charm to help the woman of the house be fertile and the family prosper. The boy’s find earned him a certificate of honor and the chance for his entire school class to participate in the dig for more artifacts at the site. He is also elated, as the media has dubbed him “the eight year old Indiana Jones”, comparing him to his hero. Itai says he now plans to pursue a career in archaeology when he grows up. 3. 2000 Year Old Earrings 2. A Pregnant Woman 1. The Role of Women

Carbon-14

09:15
Tucked away in his lab on the University of Arizona campus, archeological scientist Greg Hodgins solves unsolved mysteries: he's discovered the age of a domesticated dog skull found in a Siberian cave (33,000 years old) and dated millennia-old petroglyphs. But his work isn't all in the field of geology: he also solved cold cases by identifying bodies of people who've been missing for years. He does all of this by measuring an element called carbon-14. Carbon-14 is in every living thing. Its half-life (the time it takes for its radioactivity to fall by half once something dies), is almost 6,000 years. That's unusually long – and because the element lingers in our bones and teeth and in tree rings for so long, it's an excellent tool for measuring age (or more often than not, for measuring how long ago something died). This story will delve into some of they mysteries Hodgins and his team have solved and look at how nuclear explosions in the 40s and 50s were a boon to his field. Please considering supporting the channel through my patreon link to help continue the consistent uploads. https://www.patreon.com/oldmoviesreborn Thanks. Age of the Earth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth Earth is the third planet from the Sun, and the only astronomical object known to harbor life. According to radiometric dating and other sources of evidence, Earth formed over 4.5 billion years ago.[24][25][26] Earth's gravity interacts with other objects in space, especially the Sun and the Moon, Earth's only natural satellite. Earth orbits around the Sun in 365.26 days, a period known as an Earth year. During this time, Earth rotates about its axis about 366.26 times.[n 5] Earth's axis of rotation is tilted with respect to its orbital plane, producing seasons on Earth.[27] The gravitational interaction between Earth and the Moon causes tides, stabilizes Earth's orientation on its axis, and gradually slows its rotation.[28] Earth is the densest planet in the Solar System and the largest and most massive of the four terrestrial planets.[29] Earth's lithosphere is divided into several rigid tectonic plates that migrate across the surface over many millions of years. About 71% of Earth's surface is covered with water, mostly by oceans.[30] The remaining 29% is land consisting of continents and islands that together contain many lakes, rivers and other sources of water that contribute to the hydrosphere. The majority of Earth's polar regions are covered in ice, including the Antarctic ice sheet and the sea ice of the Arctic ice pack. Earth's interior remains active with a solid iron inner core, a liquid outer core that generates the Earth's magnetic field, and a convecting mantle that drives plate tectonics. Within the first billion years of Earth's history, life appeared in the oceans and began to affect the Earth's atmosphere and surface, leading to the proliferation of aerobic and anaerobic organisms. Some geological evidence indicates that life may have arisen as early as 4.1 billion years ago. Since then, the combination of Earth's distance from the Sun, physical properties, and geological history have allowed life to evolve and thrive.[31][32] In the history of the Earth, biodiversity has gone through long periods of expansion, occasionally punctuated by mass extinction events. Over 99% of all species[33] that ever lived on Earth are extinct.[34][35] Estimates of the number of species on Earth today vary widely;[36][37][38] most species have not been described.[39] Over 7.6 billion humans live on Earth and depend on its biosphere and natural resources for their survival.[40] Humans have developed diverse societies and cultures; politically, the world has about 200 sovereign states.

Shroud Carbon Dating Overturned By Scientific Peer Review

03:03
"Analytical Results on Thread Samples Taken from the Raes Sampling Area (Corner) of the Shroud Cloth" (Aug 2008) Excerpt: The age-dating process failed to recognize one of the first rules of analytical chemistry that any sample taken for characterization of an area or population must necessarily be representative of the whole. The part must be representative of the whole. Our analyses of the three thread samples taken from the Raes and C-14 sampling corner showed that this was not the case....... LANL's work confirms the research published in Thermochimica Acta (Jan. 2005) by the late Raymond Rogers, a chemist who had studied actual C-14 samples and concluded the sample was not part of the original cloth possibly due to the area having been repaired. Robert Villarreal (Paper and video presentation awaiting publication, see Ohio State University Shroud of Turin Conference Press Release) http://www.ohioshroudconference.com/ Thermochimica Acta - Raymond N. Rogers, Los Alamos National Laboratory, University of California (Volume 425 2005 Issue 1-2, pp 189-194). The article is available on Elsevier BV's ScienceDirect® online information site. A determination of the kinetics of vanillin loss suggests that the shroud is between 1300- and 3000-years old. Even allowing for errors in the measurements and assumptions about storage conditions, the cloth is unlikely to be as young as 840 years. http://www.ntskeptics.org/issues/shroud/shroudold.htm Carbon 14 Dating Mistakes with the Shroud of Turin (Updated in 2008): It may well go down as the biggest radiocarbon dating mistake in history; http://www.innoval.com/C14/ Why is the Turin Shroud Authentic? – Giulio Fanti* – November 2018 Conclusion excerpt: If, as discussed above, by authenticity of the Shroud is meant a funerary sheet, of very ancient manufacture, of about 2000 years ago, that wrapped the corpse of a man hard tortured and dead on a cross, all the scientific clues considered seem favorable to this hypothesis. Six [8, 10-14] out of seven independent dating methods (and [9] has been widely criticized) indicate that this linen Sheet is datable to a period including the first century after Christ. The most important Relic of Christianity wrapped a corpse. The blood traces correspond to those of a tortured man. The body image cannot be explained, but the most reliable hypotheses refer to an intense and probably very brief burst of energy. The corpse, endowed with considerable corpse rigidity, remained wrapped in the Shroud for a short period, not exceeding forty hours. All these clues therefore confirm the authenticity of the Shroud [27] https://juniperpublishers.com/gjaa/pdf/GJAA.MS.ID.555707.pdf

Kamaraj from Madurai file PIL at Chennai High Court Madurai branch, to re-initiate the archaeological excavation in Thoothukudi Adichanallur. The Judges of the High Court Bench Justice Kirubakaran and SS Sundar said, “the central government does not show interest in filing the report even after 16 years of Adichanallur excavation completed”. Yesterday (April 4) the case was again heard. 'Two items in Adichanallur excavations were sent to the research center in the state of Florida, USA. At the end of the research conducted in the 'Carbon dating' method, the age of the object was 905 BCE, and another one was 791 BCE,' said the Attorney to appear on behalf of the Central Archaeological Department. Following this, the Attorney requested more time to file a detailed report on the report. The judges who heard the arguments over the case, said that the most ancient language of the world is Tamil "Will there be second phase of excavation in Adichanallur with this carbon dating system? Is Central Government and State Government doing excavation work?" Questions were raised by the judges.

Harzburgite Inclusions Harzburgite inclusions are a form of peridot-ite rocks, which are the most common rocks in the Earth’s mantle. These inclusions are so common that scientists are able to date diamonds by dating the inclusions inside of them. At Amsterdam’s Vrije University, scientists have been studying 26 diamonds with Harzburgite inclusions. They’ve determined that nine of these diamonds were formed three billion years ago when the mega continent Pangaea broke apart into smaller continents. 9. Boron Molecules There are four qualities that determine the value of a diamond but you probably know this already. Cut, color, carat and, everybody say it with me know! Clarity. Good! Carat is the weight of a diamond, and it’s an obvious basis for value. The heavier the diamond, the bigger it is, and therefore usually the more it costs. Color is important because some colors are rarer than others. The two rarest diamond colors are blue and red. 8. Kyanite Another molecule that turns diamonds blue is kyanite, which is a semiprecious stone in its own right. It’s rare, but sometimes diamonds contain kyanite, which most often turns the diamond blue. Kyanite is used in heat-resistant ceramics and can be found in sinks and bathroom fixtures. It is also used in manufacturing where heat resistance is important. 7. Extra-terrestrial Carbon Pure carbon exists in three forms: graphite, buckminsterfullerene, and, of course, diamonds. There are two other forms of carbon, as well, and their existence was postulated long before it was proven. These two other forms are made of mutated carbon atoms, which have the distinction of being harder than diamond. 6. Carbon-12 In 1983, 22 diamonds were found in the Jack Hills in Western Australia. These diamonds were made of carbon-12, also known as light carbon, which is only formed from living organisms. Earth is estimated to be about 4.54 billion years old, and scientists from UCLA just recently shared with the public that they had found biogenic carbon that dates back to 4.1 billion years. 5. Calcium Silicate Perovskite Calcium silicate perovskite makes up almost 38% of the Earth’s volume, but it’s still incredibly rare to find. The best sample that scientists have obtained came from a meteorite. Here on Earth, it’s the fourth most common substance, but when it gets closer than 400 miles to the surface, it becomes unstable and breaks down. Stable samples of calcium silicate perovskite are hard to obtain because the mineral can only exist deep in the Earth’s mantle, too deep to reach through drilling. 4. Ferropericlase The Earth’s mantle is extremely thick, and most diamonds are formed in the upper and middle bands. It’s very rare for diamonds to be found that were formed in the deepest levels of the mantle. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA), however, thinks they’ve found some from this superdeep level based on the discovery of diamonds with Ferropericlase. 3. Ringwoodite Geologists speculate that there’s an ocean trapped inside the Earth’s mantle, 320 miles inside the planet. Or at least a very, very large amount of water that is trapped in a specific layer of the deep Earth. The ocean in question is held within a green mineral called ringwoodite, which only exists in an area between the upper and lower mantle called the transition zone. 2. Ice-VII There are several different types of ice in the world. The standard ice for us, the kind we put into our drinks, is called ice-I, and its oxygen atoms form hexagons. If ice-I is put under pressure, it converts to ice-II,. More pressure makes ice-III, and so on. So you can imagine Ice-VII!! It is actually created in the laboratory, and scientists believe it is common on icy moons like Titan and Europa. They never believed that it existed naturally on Earth. 1. Liquid Metals Like water, metals can be caught inside diamonds as they form. These little impurities or inclusions make jewelers discard them diamonds as subpar, but to scientists, these impurities can speak volumes. Large diamonds containing metal inclusions are rare. There have been 53 diamonds found with these impurities inside them. STRANGEST Skeleton Discoveries

11:47
No, it’s not Halloween. Today, we’re talking about some of the strangest skeleton discoveries ever made. What groundbreaking discoveries have history left behind for modern day people to dig up? Keep watching to find out! The Zoo of Healing Animals Most zoos are located in big cities. They (hopefully) have state-of-the-art facilities that help keep the animals protected and in their areas to prevent any incident. However, it seems zoos have been around for longer than most of us realize. In Hierakonpolis, now known as Nekhen, Egypt, a vast area of animals were discovered buried in the sandy dirt. During the time of the Ancient Egyptians, wealthy residents often kept menageries of exotic pets. One excavation in this area turned up with bones of baboons, hippos, elephants and other animals. Most of them seemed to have signs of injuries. It suggests the animals were probably hurt during their capture but that they were able to heal because they were in captivity. 4. The Youngest Dinosaur Most scientists will tell you that the end of the dinosaurs came around 65 million years ago. Imagine the surprise of the paleontologists digging in Dawson Country, Montana when they came across a dinosaur fossil that appeared to date back to only 33,500 years ago! The find in question is a Triceratops brow horn. The first triceratops appeared on Earth 68 million years ago in North America and became extinct a million years before the last dinosaurs. Researchers dug up the brown horn in 2012 and which was then stored at the Glendive Dinosaur Fossil Museum. When the head of the Paleo Chronology Group, Hugh Miller, carried out carbon dating, the results showed that the horn was much younger than anyone could have possibly guessed. Its dating created a controversy in the dinosaur research world. Did early humans walk among the last dinosaurs? Scientists don’t quite have the answer yet. 3. A Hybrid Beast Western European folklore likes their hybrid animals. The griffin and chimeras are among some of the most prominent fantastical beasts in the old fairy tales. Were any of them ever real? Let’s look to a boneyard in Dorset for some answers. In 2015, archaeologists from Bournemouth University unearthed the bones of animals that appeared to be more than one put together. In one space, there’s an animal that is a cow but with horse’s legs. Another is a sheep with two heads. There’s even a horse with cow horns. Most likely, the Iron Age Britons rearranged the bones to make what appeared to be hybrid creatures--all done for a sacrificial ritual. 2. In The Roman Catacombs Most of the skeletons on this list were caked with dirt and years of being forgotten--not so when it comes to this next topic. Deep in the Roman catacombs that were carved out of the underground in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, you will find skeletons decked out in all sorts of jewels. Crowns, necklaces, rings--you name it. These valuables cover some of the dusty old bones down there. Among those martyrs include St. Valerius, among many, many more. These bones were kept sacred by the Catholics who hid them during the Protestant Reformation in Europe. Around this time, many Catholic churches and religious houses were destroyed. 1...

In this episode, Russ delivers a patented 100% Pure U.S.D.A. Certified and Approved Grade A Rantfest on the various problems inherent in the theory behind certain types of archaeological dating methods(meaning, the methods used to determine the approximate age of some bone fragments or whatever, not the methods used to get the hot blonde to go to dinner with you). We ask the very important question, is it possible to bail out of a small Cessna aircraft mid-flight? Also, is it possible to walk barefoot down the slope of an active volcano, atop pyroclastic material? Does walking down the volcano in this stuff make one Satan himself? Asking the real questions is what Snakebros is all about. http://brothersoftheserpent.com http://feeds.feedburner.com/BrothersOfTheSerpent https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/brothers-of-the-serpent/id1229324756?mt=2

Series 4, Part 4D The Last Ice Age and Changing C-14 Dating.

01:04:51
Video Series 4, Part 4, Proves why a meteor or asteroid did not cause the last ice age or mass extinctions. You will find out why this theory was purposed and who did it. It is an example of another attempt by government to deceive the public from the truth. The video reveals an attempt by the European government to change the accuracy of Carbon-14 dating so the public and scientists could connect the ice ages with the 12,068 year cycles. The video shows that the glass beads and microtektites examining worldwide came from the Sun. This video covers the scientific proof our Sun novas and shows the particles it ejects at the time of the reversal and what lands on the Earth. This information has never been taught before because government felt it was too disruptive to society. Even if you have a degree in geology, astronomy or other related field, you were deliberately never taught this information. You were taught alternate explanations for the phenomena. The video also show that other scientists that our Sun novaed but concealed it by writing between the lines that they knew. The research revealed the Greatest Secret the Country has and the CIAs Involvement. I am going to give you the Education you were supposed to have gotten when you went to College. I am going to present this information unblemished and treat all of you like mature adults, but I warn you that this information will scare you and change your life. I present this information because I want some people to survive the reversal event This series of videos are takes partially from Chapter 8 in “God’s Day of Judgment, the Real Cause of Global Warming” as well as new material. The book can be purchased through www.Amazon.com or the publisher at www.vectorpub.com. The foundations web site www.dieholdfoundation.com has information on this information theory of existence.

Dinosaur की age कैसे पता करते है scientist? | Carbon 14 Dating Explained In Hindi | The Logical Talk

05:47
In this video, i am going to explain how scientist and archaeologist determine the age of an ancient bone or skeleton and dinosaur using carbon 14 dating and other methods. carbon 14 dating is a very easy process through which scientist determine how old a skeleton is,carbon 14 is an altrope of carbon there are 6 protons and 6 neutrons are present in carbon 14. the half life of carbon 14 is around 6000 years and the maximum life of carbon 14 atom is 60000 years. Scientists just compare the amount carbon 12 and carbon 14 to find an approximate age of a bone or skeleton. How do paleontologists know if a fossil is 2,000 years old, or 1,000,000 years. Carbon-14 really doesn't work for ages older than 50,000 years. So is it all guesswork? The Yukon paleontologist says that most Carbon-14 dating results in "the literature" are "problematic" -- wrong. What are the assumptions underlying Carbon-14 dating? Why are the results so often wrong?

√√ Applications of Radioactive Isotopes | From Quanta to Quarks | Physics

12:33
https://www.iitutor.com In nuclear medicine radiation is used for diagnostic purposes, therapy and sterilisation. A common diagnostic procedure in medicine involves the use of a tracer. A molecule is synthesised with a radioactive isotope which, when introduced into the body, concentrates in the organ or region to be studied. Detectors outside the body then use the radioactive emission to image the distribution of the radioactive isotope in the body. A commonly used isotope in medicine is technetium-99 (99Tc) , which readily combines with other atoms and has a half-life of 6 hours. A short half-life is important because emission is only needed for imaging and continued emissions after this time could cause harm to the patient. The difficulty with short half-life radio-isotopes is that they must be used very soon after they are produced. Gamma ray emission from cobalt-60 (60Co) is also used to sterilise surgical dressings and surgical equipment, because viruses and bacteria are killed by high doses of radiation. Radioactivity is used in a variety of industrial applications, most of which rely on the penetrating power and ionising properties of radiation. For example, gamma rays from cobalt-60 are used to examine welds for flaws in pipelines, ships, aircraft and so on. Gamma rays are also used to examine jet turbines for blockages and damage between regular engine services. The alpha-emitter americium-241 (241Am) is used as an ionisation source in smoke detectors, and the absorption of beta and gamma radiation is used to measure the thickness of paper, glass and plastic without touching the material during manufacture. The age of any object made from once living material can be determined by using radioactive carbon dating. When a plant dies it will contain the atmospheric ratio of 14C to 12C, which is 1.3 × 10–12. But as 14C is unstable with a half-life of 5730 years, the ratio of 14C to 12C will gradually decrease in the tissue. By measuring the ratio of 14C to 12C in a once living object, it is possible to determine the fraction of the initial 14C which has decayed and to calculate how long ago the object died. The use of a named isotope in medicine, agriculture and engineering Medicine • Using isotopes that emit positrons (positively charged beta particles), positron emission tomography (PET) is used to produce maps of any part of the body. Carbon-11, which has a half-life of 20 minutes, is ingested by the patient. It is used to make glucose and is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and travels throughout the body. Each positron emitted by C-11 combines with an electron in the body and produces two gamma rays that travel in opposite directions to each other. A computer uses these gamma rays to build up a two- or three-dimensional map of the brain, heart, cancer, or whatever is being examined. • Iodine in our food collects in and is used by the thyroid gland, just below the larynx, to produce the hormone thyroxine, which helps control metabolic rate. iodine-131 can be used to monitor the functioning of the thyroid gland and help in the early detection of the disease called goitre. Agriculture • As tracers, radioactive carbon-14, hydrogen-3, phosphorus-32 or nitrogen-15 is tagged into compounds used by plants or animals and its path followed through the organism. In this way the chemical processes occurring in cells and tissues of organisms are studied. With increased knowledge of how organisms function, scientists can, amongst other things, manufacture fertilisers that work more efficiently, determine growing conditions that produce more product and determine the preferred diets of grazing animals. The path of pesticides through the food chain can also be studied. • Gamma rays from Co-60 are used to sterilise food products and seeds and extend their shelf life significantly. The radiation kills bacteria and viruses that would otherwise cause earlier decomposition of the substances. While these benefits are obvious, many people are opposed to this use on the basis that there may be undetected genetic modifications in the food or seed that could have long-term harmful effects. Engineering • Various radiation sources are used to measure and control the thickness of paper, glass, plastic or metal sheeting. They do this by measuring the radiation penetrating the substance and reaching the detector. If the radiation detected varies, pressure on rollers changes automatically so that the desired thickness is achieved. • Americium-241 is used in smoke detectors. It emits alpha particles which ionise the air between two parallel plates that have a potential difference between them. If there is smoke in the air, some is attracted to the ionised air particles and changes the current flow between the plates. This change in current sets off the alarm.

Radioactive Decay Law, Half Life, Decay Constant, Activity + PROBLEMS

23:28
The Law of Radioactive Decay tells us how the number of a radioactive sample changes with time. Usually it is an exponential decay process. Even though the different radioactive processes like alpha decay, beta decay or gamma decay are different from each other in terms of the particles emitted etc, they all share the same kind of decay law. Half Life is defined as the time period in which the initial number of radioactive samples reaches half its original value. Decay constant and half life are inversely proportional to each other. These quantities are a characteristic of the radioactive sample present, and is independent of the physical parameters like pressure, temperature, density etc. Mean life is the average lifespan of all radioactive samples present. Activity is the rate of radioactive decay, or the number of disintegrations happening per unit time. Activity also decreases exponentially with time. We can use the conclusions derived from the decay law and other parameters to solve different problems of radioactive decay. The Piri Reis Map In 1929, a German theologian was cataloging items in the Topkapi Palace Library in Istanbul, and he came across a gazelle skin parchment with an unusual map drawn onto it. Dated back to 1513, it was drawn and signed by Turkish cartographer Hagji Ahmed Muhiddin Piri, an admiral in the Turkish Navy at the time and the map is now known as the Piri Reis map. 9. The Jehoash Inscription In 2001, a group of Israeli archaeologists were shown a stone tablet, supposedly dating back to 1000 BC, with writing that describes repairs that were made to the temple of Solomon… the first evidence ever to have been found about the renowned building. It underwent a series of tests, including radiocarbon dating, before being declared as a genuine artifact. 8. Spanish Hill, Pennsylvania Spanish Hill, in Pennsylvania, was first described by an explorer in 1795 who said it was ‘the shape of a sugar loaf, about 100 feet high, with a level top, on which are the remains of intrenchments'. Others saw the remains of walls, and further archaeological investigations have found potential evidence of a Native American society, including shell heaps, corn, flint chips, and various other implements. 7. How Alexander the Great Died By 323 BC, Alexander the Great had secured an empire that stretched from the Balkans to modern day Pakistan, but his at the age of 32 that year has been a mystery ever since. He was on the verge of attacking another empire, when he became ill and, after 12 excruciating days, finally passed away. 6. Otzi In 1991, the body of a 5,000-year-old mummy, now known as Otzi, was discovered by mountain climbers. The remains of the 45-year-old were remarkably well preserved, which has allowed researchers to examine in detail the causes of this. Despite this, there's a lot that remains unknown, and there's still great debate about how he met his end. 5. Tikal Temple 33 Tikal Temple 33 was a 108-foot-high Maya funerary pyramid that was found in the remains of the Maya city of Tikal, along with a number of other monuments. It was built in three different stages of construction in the year 457 when King Siyaj Chan K'awiil II's shrine was remodeled, and it's one of the most investigated structures of the city. 4. The Cyrus Cylinder The Cyrus Cylinder is a clay cylinder which is inscribed in Akkadian cuneiform script. It was created in 539 BC on order of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the first Persian empire when he took control of Babylon. 3. The Sandia Cave The Sandia Cave in Las Huertas Canyon, New Mexico, was once believed to be a place with vast evidence of the earliest inhabitants to live on the continent, but a set of events has led the archaeological community to question everything that they once thought to be true. 2. The Runamo Inscription With ancient cultures having used symbols that we wouldn't necessarily recognize today, how would you know for sure whether something was actually written, or just occurred naturally? That's the question that's divided archaeologists in the case of the Runamo inscription, which is located near a church in Blekinge in southern Sweden. 1. The Talpiot Tomb In 1980, a tomb was unearthed at a burial site in the Talpiot neighborhood of East Jerusalem, and inside there were 10 ossuaries… some of which bore inscriptions that have been translated as saying ‘Jesus son of Joseph’, ‘Mary’, and a few other names associated with the New Testament. These names led some researchers to believe that this was the burial place of the family of Jesus of Nazareth, while many others rejected the idea, saying that these names were very common at the time. Uses of Nuclear Radiation | Radioactivity | Physics for All | FuseSchool

03:47
Uses of Nuclear Radiation What have the Hulk and Spiderman got in common? They both gained their super powers because of radiation. Well, in films and comics at least. In real life, radiation has never given anyone super powers. But when used carefully radiation does have many uses. Which we’re going to look at in this video. Remember, the nucleus is found at the centre of all atoms. Some nuclei are unstable and may emit alpha particles, beta particles, or neutrons, and electromagnetic radiation as gamma rays. Gamma radiation can be used in radiotherapy, for the treatment of cancer. Gamma radiation is directed at the area of the body affected by cancer. At high doses, radiation kills cancer cells or slows down their growth by damaging their DNA. These dead cancer cells are broken down and removed by the body. Radiotherapy doesn’t work straight away; the cancer cells can take up to a few months to die and be removed by the body. Radiotherapy can also be used to destroy other tissues in the body, that are not useful. For example, radiotherapy is often used in the treatment of overactive thyroid glands. If the thyroid gland produces too much thyroxine, it can result in heart palpitations, anxiety, tiredness and mood swings, amongst other symptoms. Radiotherapy can be used to destroy some cells of the thyroid gland and thereby reduce the amount of thyroxine that is produced. Beta and gamma radiation can also be used as tracers. Tracers in the body can provide a useful alternative to surgery. A small amount of radioactive material is introduced to the body and a radiographer follows the passage of this material through the body using specialised equipment. Beta and gamma sources are used because they pass out of the body and so can be detected. Remember, alpha radiation can’t travel through anything thicker than a sheet of paper. Barium meals or barium enemas are common examples of radiation used in this way. Smoke detectors emit a constant stream of alpha particles. A sensor continually detects these alpha particles, causing a small current. If smoke particles come between the source and the detector, the current is decreased and an alarm goes off. Gamma radiation is used to sterilise hospital equipment and is also used to kill bacteria, mould and insects from food before the food is packaged. This increases the shelf-life of the food. The food is safe to eat and doesn’t become radioactive itself as it’s irradiation rather than contamination. There are a few uses for radiation - there are many, many more. While radiation can be extremely useful, unfortunately it won’t make use superhuman. The Piri Reis Map The Piri Reis map is considered the first map of the world. Created in 1513, it was drawn by Ottoman admiral and cartographer Hagii Ahmed Muhiddin Pira, aka Piri Reis, who compiled military intelligence and created a detailed map. Only one third of the original map remains, drawn on gazelle-skin parchment. It shows the Atlantic Ocean, with detailed depictions of the west coast of Europe and North Africa, Atlantic islands like the Azores and the Canary Islands, and all the way to the eastern coast of Brazil. 7. The Baghdad Battery The Baghdad Battery could almost be considered 3 artifacts in one. It is a terracotta pot that contains a copper cylinder and a single iron rod. The top of the rod is separated from the copper by a layer of bitumen, which acts as a plug or stopper. The rod and cylinder fit snugly into the opening of the jar, but the copper cylinder isn’t watertight, so any liquid in the jar would also make contact with the iron rod. 6. The Sanxingdui Jade In the spring of 1929, a farmer in the quiet village of Sanxingdui in China’s Sichuan province was digging a well when he discovered a large stash of amazing jade artifacts. They were unlike anything anyone had ever seen before, and Chinese archaeologists scoured the area for years looking for more evidence of the lost people who had made these artifacts. 5. The Voynich Manuscript The Voynich Manuscript is a hand-written and hand-illustrated book that was probably composed in northern Italy during the Renaissance. The vellum pages are full of drawings, sketches and writing in a language no one understands. The original has been carbon-dated to around 1404 to 1438. It’s named after Wilfrid Voynich, a book dealer who purchased the codex in 1912. 4. The Saqqara Bird In 1898, archaeologists excavating the Pa-di-Imen tomb in Saqqara, Egypt, discovered the effigy of a bird made of sycamore wood. The bird had the head of a falcon and a wingspan of about 7 inches, but that’s where the similarities to a real bird ends. For starters, the tail is vertical, like that of an an airplane or a shark! Its wings are represented as rigid like the wings of a glider. 3. Dropa Stones In 1938, Chinese archaeologist Dr. Chi Pu Tei discovered evidence of a long-lost culture in the caves around Baian-Kara-Ula in China. Under a thick layer of dust, Dr. Chi found dozens of stone disks that were strikingly similar to vinyl records. They were about nine inches in diameter, had a central hole, and were inscribed with a long spiral groove. The disks were turned over to a researcher named Tsum Um Nui from the Beijing Academy for Ancient Studies. 2. The Antikythera Mechanism In 1902, a strange artifact was pulled up out of an ancient shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera. The shipwreck dated to about 70 to 60 BC, and the artifact itself has been dated to about a generation before the wreck took place. It was first believed to be a gear wheel for steering the ship, but it soon became apparent that it was much, much more. 1. The London Hammer In 1936, at Red Creek outside London, Texas, Max Hahn and his wife Emma found a strange piece of limestone that seemed to have wood sticking out of it. They brought the stone home with them, and used it a curious paperweight. Then, in 1946, their son for some reason broke open the stone, and what he found amazed him. Contained within the limestone was a man-made hammer. Why renewables can’t save the planet | Michael Shellenberger | TEDxDanubia

17:33
Environmentalists have long promoted renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind farms to save the climate. But what about when those technologies destroy the environment? In this provocative talk, Time Magazine “Hero of the Environment” and energy expert, Michael Shellenberger explains why solar and wind farms require so much land for mining and energy production, and an alternative path to saving both the climate and the natural environment. Michael Shellenberger is a Time Magazine Hero of the Environment and President of Environmental Progress, a research and policy organization. A lifelong environmentalist, Michael changed his mind about nuclear energy and has helped save enough nuclear reactors to prevent an increase in carbon emissions equivalent to adding more than 10 million cars to the road. He lives in Berkeley, California. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Cannizzaro Reaction | Everything You Need to Know | Jee Adavnced | NEET | AIIMS | Mains

43:16
Hello, Guys. In this Lecture we are going to explain all the important points about Cannizzaro reaction . As You all know that Cannizzaro reaction is one of the very important topic for Jee Mains/Advance/NEET and AIIMS examination. Here, We will discuss this topic from very basic level to Jee Advanced level. The disproportionation reaction of aldehydes without α-hydrogens in presence of a strong base to furnish an alcohol and a carboxylic acid is called Cannizzaro reaction. One molecule of aldehyde is reduced to the corresponding alcohol, while a second one is oxidized to the carboxylic acid. The applicability of Cannizzaro reaction in organic synthesis is limited as the yield is not more than 50% for either acid or alcohol formed. In case of aldehydes that do have α-hydrogens, the aldol condensation reaction takes place preferentially. The α,α,α-Trihalo aldehydes undergo haloform reaction in strongly alkaline medium. E.g. Choral will give chloroform in presence of an alkali. Mechanism:- The Cannizzaro reaction is initiated by the nucleophilic attack of a hydroxide ion on the carbonyl carbon of an aldehyde molecule by giving a hydrate anion, which can be further deprotonated to give a dianion in a strongly alkaline medium. Note that, in the second step, the hydroxide behaves as a base. Now a hydride ion, H- is transferred either from the monoanionic species or dianionic species onto the carbonyl carbon of another aldehyde molecule. The strong electron donating effect of O- groups facilitates the hydride transfer and drives the reaction further. This is the rate determining step of the reaction. Thus one molecule is oxidized to carboxylic acid and the other one is reduced to an alcohol. When the reaction is carried out with D2O as solvent, the resulting alcohol does not show carbon bonded to deuterium. It indicates that hydrogen is transferred from the second aldehyde molecule, and not from the solvent. The overall order of the reaction is usually 3 or 4. The Cannizzaro reaction takes place very slowly when electron-donating groups are present. But the reaction occurs at faster rates when electron withdrawing groups are present. Crossed Cannizzaro reaction: When a mixture of formaldehyde and a non enolizable aldehyde is treated with a strong base, the later is preferentially reduced to alcohol while formaldehyde is oxidized to formic acid. This variant is known as crossed Cannizzaro reaction. E.g. Benzyl alcohol and formic acid are obtained when a mixture of benzaldehyde and formaldehyde is treated with alkali. And Many other aspects of this reaction has been discussed in details. —————————————————————————————————————— Sodium Borohydride in Organic chemistry https://youtu.be/VBer7RoEY_Q LiAlH4 in One Shot https://youtu.be/54iNWE441t0 DIBAL_H in organic chemistry https://youtu.be/tlWFq9KSqNY Most expected and important Questions in Physical chemistry https://youtu.be/SZICnNZ3Fsk Most Important & Expected Questions for JEE NEET 2019 https://youtu.be/76pt3sj98vo Most Expected Questions for JEE and NEET 2019 https://youtu.be/SRIJAD0lj3I Bent's Rule | Chemical Bonding | https://youtu.be/6PNGlX-jkKw Inert Pair Effect | p-block Chemistry | https://youtu.be/yQLZneRCeZ0 Back Bonding in Chemistry | https://youtu.be/aoe5gYq9wDA Tricks for dpi - ppi Bonding | Explained by IITian | https://youtu.be/ca1GZPqvcw8 Trick for Bond Angle | Developed by IITian | https://youtu.be/tuXssF-FSNs Banana Bond in chemistr y https://youtu.be/vfLtcwstrtQ Heating of Salt: https://youtu.be/NEcZohujhLo Tricks for Hydrolysis of p Block Compounds https://youtu.be/LKSfe51Wo3A Tricks to Remember p Block Reactions https://youtu.be/GSxtE_nzkyE Oxides of Phosphorus | Tricks and Techniques | https://youtu.be/4miyRntMM_0 Inorganic Reaction Mechanism | Tricks and Concept | https://youtu.be/YzACv8dgdRE We hope this would be very benificial for you guys. SUBLIME LIGHT ON THE TURIN SHROUD - The true origin of a controversial medieval relic

02:01
In April 1988, the Vatican authorities provided a small sample of the Turin Shroud for radiocarbon dating of the alleged burial cloth of Jesus Christ. In October of the same year, coordinator Michael S. Tite presented the conclusion of the university labs of Oxford, Zurich and Tucson (Arizona) to the entire world press: the miraculous imprint of Jesus’ resurrected body on the shroud dated to 1260-1390 CE… Even if we accept that the Turin Shroud indeed is a cloth from the 13th or 14th century, does this answer all the questions raised before the radiocarbon dating? Judging by the countless publications that have appeared in the scientific and the popular press since, nobody seems to have managed so far. This book reveals the true origin of this medieval relic. The so called ‘believers’ recognize in the spectacular image instantly the ‘stamp’ of the Miracle Worker from Galilee, but was it not Jesus himself who denied the unique character of his miracles? Indeed, ‘Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do.’ (John 14:12) The Turin Shroud was ‘fabricated’ in the 13th or 14th century. Yet, not by a smart swindler, but by an ‘enlightened’ individual who had ‘ears to hear’ (Mark 4:23)… ISBN 9789463385138 http://www.bloggen.be/ludonoens
