Recently Bill Nye and Ken Ham had a debate regarding the validity of evolution and creationism. This debate mixed with the recent discovery of the earliest known human footprints outside Africa is leading a big question to arise: How does carbon dating work? Well, Trace did some digging and is here to tell you all about carbon dating and other ways we can know the age of an object or fossil. This video was first posted a year ago on the Potholer54debunks channel. I will be bringing other videos over from that channel from time to time, to be placed in a new playlist of Golden Crocoduck nominees. But new videos will still be posted on Potholer54debunks first, and remain there until the danger of false flagging has passed. The reason for having two channels is that creationists have had frequently had science channels like mine shut down. If this happens to me, I want subscribers to have an alternative venue where my work can continue. Thanks to all my subscribers on both channels for your support. My apologies to those who have seen this video before and are having it imposed on them once again. My videos promoting science over belief in all fields will continue.

Muslims in 2015 claimed that the Birmingham Folios which were dated using Carbon Dating between 568-745 AD, were thus the oldest example of the Qur'an, and co-existed with the time of Muhammad himself. Yet, Muslims need to be careful about these dates, as Jay and Al Fadi show that other carbon datings of similar Qur'anic material (the Sana'a manuscript) from four European labs give dates which are 60 years before the birth of Muhammad, and even in some cases even earlier, which suggests that the Qur'an received its material from much earlier documents, all written before Muhammad, before Islam, and certainly before the Qur'an. Jay looks at the three stories within the Birmingham folios taken from Surahs 18-20, and notices that they include the story of Moses, the story of the 7 sleepers of Ephesus, and the story of Dhu-al Qarnain (Alexander the Great), which are all borrowed from pre-existing accounts which were all earlier than the Qur'a'n. He then looks at other borrowed stories within the Qur'an, those of Cain and Abel in Surah 5:31-33; the story of Abraham in Surah 20:51-71; and the story of © Pfander Centre for Apologetics, 2018 (17,267)

All living things are made up of about 25% carbon. The carbon atom is unique because it can bind to other carbon atoms to form long chains and rings and these in turn serve as the backbone of the complex molecules that make life possible. The nucleus of a typical carbon atom has 6 protons and 6 neutrons. But about one carbon atom out of every 100 has one extra neutron. This has very little effect on the properties of the carbon, other than making it slightly heavier. Chemically, it acts just like any other carbon atom. It is called Carbon-13. And there is an even rarer type of carbon. It is formed high in the atmosphere when cosmic rays strike atoms of nitrogen converting them into Carbon -14. Carbon-14 is also chemically identical to regular carbon. But the nucleus of carbon-14 is unstable. After some amount of time, which could range from a few days to many thousands of years, carbon-14 decays back into nitrogen. But since carbon-14 is formed at a steady rate, there is a constant level of it in the environment. Out of every trillion carbon atoms in your body, only one dozen of them are carbon-14. As long as an organism is alive and eating, it maintains a constant ratio of carbon-14 to regular carbon. But once an organism dies, the amount of carbon-14 in its body begins to decrease. After 5000 years about half of the original number of carbon-14 atoms will have decayed. Using this fact, scientists can tell how long ago an organism died. • http://www.cassiopeiaproject.com .

Get the downloadable lab here: https://rosieresearch.com/shop/the-mummy-mystery-osmosis-and-carbon-dating/ Archaeologists use carbon dating to discover how old an object is. They compare the ratio of heavy Carbon 14 to it's lighter, and more plentiful sibling, Carbon 12. In labs mass spectrometers are able to separate them to find out how much of each is in a sample. In our activity we will use heavier nickels as Carbon 14 and lighter pennies as Carbon 12. Using similar principles we will accelerate the coins down a ramp and us a constant cross force of a hair dryer to change the direction of the coins. Pennies will hit the wall closer to the ramp, and the coins will make two separate groups - much like what you would see in a real mass spectrometer! Kids then count up the number of nickels and pennies, take the ratio, and use a chart to discover if their chicken mummy is from King Tut's tomb or an impostor! This is a fun hands on science activity that goes with our homeschool science curriculum in our October Mummy Mystery! Get all our labs at RosieResearch.com/Shop or get them delivered to your inbox by subscribing to them at Patreon.com/RosieResearch!

I'm thinking about getting back into dating. I'm only going to be seeing bits of cloth and broken plates, so there's no need to tell my wife. Besides - they're not what they used to be in terms of activity... Maybe I shouldn't put this on the internet. What, use restraint while posting to the web? Naah. It'll be fine. In other news, I hope this shows you how you can solve any radioactive dating problem from a very tiny amount of info. It's all related via some simple equations, so get familiar with them.

Here is a link to the carbon dating summary discussed in the video. You will be able to see for yourself that the interior of the Khufu pyramid has NEVER BEEN assayed for date. They only tested the sides of the pyramid. I am saying this is really the LATEST EDGE. I am suggesting that Khufu may only have built the OUTER LAYER OF RUBBLE, followed by the the limestone layer. However, if you are going to go to all that trouble, he may as well have also renovated the chamber. Dig deep into the structures however and the dates go back. I show this. Pyramids would be layer after layer after layer, as in Mexico and any other huge mound around the world, not built all at once... suddenly... by one person. RIDICULOUS! Ask the engineers, ask anybody who knows about construction... It is WAY too much work to do this all at once. Carbon dating was performed in 1984 as well as 1995 and they clarified that as you go into the pyramids you start getting abnormal dates, centuries earlier before the outer layer... never discussed. This proves the pyramids were not built all at once but reworked. the dating merely dates the FINAL time of rework which was about 2500 BC. Underneath the Khufu pyramid especially we see a strange layer of bedrock. Guess what, the Great Sphinx and also tomb of Khentkawes would ALSO be described as 'bedrock' since that is basically what it is, carved out of the Giza plateau. This is where I get the 10k year old date, for the structure under the Giza pyramid if we take into consideration geological erosion. https://journals.uair.arizona.edu/index.php/radiocarbon/article/viewFile/3874/3299 #pyramids, #can't_Built_today #engineering #puma punku #collapsed_pyramid #destroyed_civilization #mexican_pyramids All vids, new discoveries: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4dkC_L7uyH2ZYl_ixWASIg/videos I now have a second channel. How Carbon Dating works to disprove evolution, as explained by Kent Hovind in his creation science seminar. Radiometric dating measures the decay of radioactive atoms to determine the age of a rock sample. It is founded on unprovable assumptions such as 1) there has been no contamination and 2) the decay rate has remained constant. By dating rocks of known ages which give highly inflated ages, geologists have shown this method can’t give reliable absolute ages. Radiometric Clock Many geologists claim that radiometric “clocks” show rocks to be millions of years old. However, to read any clock accurately we must know where the clock was set at the beginning. Radiometric Dating and the Age of the Earth Most people think that radioactive dating has proven the earth is billions of years old. After all, textbooks, media, and museums glibly present ages of millions of years as fact. Yet few people know how radiometric dating works or bother to ask what assumptions drive the conclusions. Radiometric Dating Accurate? Is the earth approximately four billion years old? This figure wasn’t established by radiometric dating of the earth itself. Most people are not aware of this. Radiohalos Radiohalos shouldn’t exist, according to conventional wisdom! Though they are very tiny, polonium radiohalos have a huge message that cannot be ignored. They point to a catastrophic origin for granites, consistent with the biblical timeframe for earth history and God’s judgment during the Flood. This video explains how the carbon-14 method is used to determine the age of Ötzi. Ötzi is a well preserved mummy that was discovered in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps of Italy. Carbon has two stable non-radioactive isotopes, carbon-12 and carbon-13, and one radioactive isotope, carbon-14. The half-life of carbon-14 is 5730 years. Because of its relatively short half-life you might expect that its concentration in the atmosphere would be reduced over thousands of years but new carbon-14 is always being produced in the upper atmosphere by the interaction of cosmic rays, neutrons and nitrogen-14 atoms. Therefore the concentration of carbon-14 in the atmosphere is relatively constant. Plants and animals have the same concentration of carbon-14 as the atmosphere because they are constantly exchanging it with their environment. When they die, the carbon-14 in their bodies continues to decay, but they are no longer able to take up new carbon-14 and the concentration of carbon-14 in their bodies decreases. Knowing the concentration of carbon-14 at the time of death and the concentration of carbon-14 some time (t) after death enables you to determine how long it has been since the plant or animal died. Read just about any textbook and watch about any movie and what do you hear? The universe and all of life began millions and billions of years ago. Unfortunately, what most people don't realize, even Christians, is that this mantra of evolutionary teaching actually calls Jesus Christ a liar, God the Father a liar, and it even calls God's Word a liar. Therefore, A Young Earth exposes the falsehood of evolutionary dating methods and reveals beyond a shadow of a doubt that we really do have A Young Earth just like the Bible states. You will explore such things as, the Evidence of Space, the Evidence of Earth, the Evidence of Logic, the Fallacy of Carbon Dating and all other evolutionary dating methods, the Circular Reasoning of the Geologic Column and finally the Rapid Formation of Rocks, Caves, Stalagmites and Stalactites, and even Fossils. Not only that, you will also hear direct quotes from the evolutionists themselves saying that yes, we very well could have A Young Earth! After watching this series, you too will come to the same conclusion as Malcolm Muggeridge who stated, "I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially to the extant to which it's been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future."

THIS VIDEO IS LACED WITH SARCASM (to those who have difficulty sensing it). Scientists admit that radiometric dating, one of the fundamental techniques used to show the earth is billions of years old is flawed!!! The earth is not 4.55 billion years old. Watch and find out just how old it really is. Of course, scientists are always refining their techniques, it's part of of science works. Creationists have pointed to a number of "results" from radiometric dating that prove it doesn't work. Here I go over all the reasons why. Why is there Carbon-14 in some coal. Why did Potassium-Argon dating of the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens give ages on the order of hundreds of thousands of years. Radiometric dating methods rely upon circular logic, such as calibration curves and dating fossils by rocks by strata by fossils by rocks by strata. When employing dating methods, evolutionists toss out dates which dissagree with the assumed age of something only to publish the date that seems to come closest to their assumption. You are never told about the dates which dissagreee with their assumptions. They are not scientific and ignora several scientific observations which make it clear that they are worthless. The sun produces C-14 in the upper atmosphere, and at the same time it decays which removes it from the Earth. Because the Earth has not acheived C-14 equalibrium but is instead still increasing, which would take approximately 30,000 yrs, C-14 verifies the fact that the Earth is less than 30,000 yrs old.

It is all based on guesswork, conjecture and some very wild imaginations, we can measure many things about a rock, we cannot directly measure its age.

Dr Becky Briant from Birkbeck's Department of Geography explains how radiocarbon dating - a method for determining the age of an object containing organic material - works, and why it is used. She explains: "The physics of radiocarbon dating is the physics of radioactive decay. All organic things contain carbon... over time, the amount of radioactive carbon will decrease." Measuring this can tell you how old something is, back to 30,000 years reliably. For decades, radiocarbon dating has been a way for scientists to get a rough picture of when once-living stuff lived. The method has been revolutionary and remains one of the most commonly used dating methods to study the past, but according to UA researcher Charlotte Pearson, it’s ready for a makeover. By developing new ways to use radiocarbon in tree rings, she builds on the legacies of scientists before her. How Radiocarbon Dating Works Dr. Erle Nelson, Department of Archaeology, Simon Fraser University "Radiocarbon dating works because in the upper atmosphere a very strange event takes place; cosmic rays from outer space come in and interact with the earth’s atmosphere and create a special form of carbon called radiocarbon. It’s a radioactive isotope of carbon which eventually decays. We know what its half-life is. We know that it has a regular decay rate – one half of it disappears every 5, 568 years. This stuff is created in the upper atmosphere and is quickly converted into ordinary carbon dioxide, except that this carbon dioxide has radiocarbon in it instead of ordinary carbon. That carbon dioxide is used by plants in their normal process of photosynthesis and therefore gets incorporated into the tissue of all of the plants on earth, and then gets further incorporated into the tissue of all of the animals that eat the plants, and so on. Radiocarbon dating is based on the fact that when these plants and animals stop taking up radiocarbon from the atmosphere, either directly in the case of plants, or indirectly in the case of animals, the concentration of radiocarbon in those tissues begins to decrease. If we find some old tissue lying around in an archaeological site, an old piece of charcoal or an old animal bone or something of that nature, we can measure the radiocarbon concentration in that tissue and from that we can determine the time elapsed since that particular plant or animal stopped incorporating carbon from its environment. That’s what a radiocarbon age is. It doesn’t give an age of an artefact, for example, directly, but it can tell us when a plant died or an animal died. In that sense, a charcoal date on charcoal found in a fireplace, for example, does not give an age for when that fire was lit, it tells you when the tree from which the charcoal was made died. And one has to keep these things in perspective when analyzing radiocarbon information."

What is RADIOCARBON DATING? What does RADIOCARBON DATING mean? RADIOCARBON DATING meaning - RADIOCARBON DATING definition - RADIOCARBON DATING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Radiocarbon dating (also referred to as carbon dating or carbon-14 dating) is a method for determining the age of an object containing organic material by using the properties of radiocarbon (14 C), a radioactive isotope of carbon. The method was developed by Willard Libby in the late 1940s and soon became a standard tool for archaeologists. Libby received the Nobel Prize for his work in 1960. The radiocarbon dating method is based on the fact that radiocarbon is constantly being created in the atmosphere by the interaction of cosmic rays with atmospheric nitrogen. The resulting radiocarbon combines with atmospheric oxygen to form radioactive carbon dioxide, which is incorporated into plants by photosynthesis; animals then acquire 14 C by eating the plants. When the animal or plant dies, it stops exchanging carbon with its environment, and from that point onwards the amount of 14 C it contains begins to decrease as the 14 C undergoes radioactive decay. Measuring the amount of 14 C in a sample from a dead plant or animal such as a piece of wood or a fragment of bone provides information that can be used to calculate when the animal or plant died. The older a sample is, the less 14 C there is to be detected, and because the half-life of 14C (the period of time after which half of a given sample will have decayed) is about 5,730 years, the oldest dates that can be reliably measured by radiocarbon dating are around 50,000 years ago, although special preparation methods occasionally permit dating of older samples. The idea behind radiocarbon dating is straightforward, but years of work were required to develop the technique to the point where accurate dates could be obtained. Research has been ongoing since the 1960s to determine what the proportion of 14 C in the atmosphere has been over the past fifty thousand years. The resulting data, in the form of a calibration curve, is now used to convert a given measurement of radio-arbon in a sample into an estimate of the sample's calendar age. Other corrections must be made to account for the proportion of 14 C in different types of organisms (fractionation), and the varying levels of 14 C throughout the biosphere (reservoir effects). Additional complications come from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil, and from the above-ground nuclear tests done in the 1950s and 1960s. Because the time it takes to convert biological materials to fossil fuels is substantially longer than the time it takes for its 14 C to decay below detectable levels, they contain almost no 14 C, and as a result there was a noticeable drop in the proportion of 14 C in the atmosphere beginning in the late 19th century. Conversely, nuclear testing increased the amount of 14 C in the atmosphere, which attained a maximum in 1963 of almost twice what it had been before the testing began. Measurement of radio-carbon was originally done by beta-counting devices, which counted the amount of beta radiation emitted by decaying 14 C atoms in a sample. More recently, accelerator mass spectrometry has become the method of choice; it counts all the 14 C atoms in the sample and not just the few that happen to decay during the measurements; it can therefore be used with much smaller samples (as small as individual plant seeds), and gives results much more quickly. The development of radiocarbon dating has had a profound impact on archaeology. In addition to permitting more accurate dating within archaeological sites than previous methods, it allows comparison of dates of events across great distances. Histories of archaeology often refer to its impact as the "radio-carbon revolution". Radiocarbon dating has allowed key transitions in prehistory to be dated, such as the end of the last ice age, and the beginning of the Neolithic and Bronze Age in different regions.

Carbon dating may suffer drastically if pollution levels continue to rise, and the reason revolves around fossil fuel emissions. According to a recent study by Imperial College London atmospheric scientist Heather Graven, emissions could drastically “age” the atmosphere over the coming decades and make accurate carbon dating more difficult. It has been known that such emissions have a "dilution" effect, but this recent study shows how drastically. Carbon dating looks at the radioactive carbon-14 in an object and uses that to determine how old it is. Increases in normal carbon also effects the number, however, and fossil fuel emissions — which don’t have carbon-14 — are causing an increase in carbon levels. This in turn makes objects seem, through the eyes of carbon dating, older than they are. As an example of the effects, an object in 2050 may seem the same — through carbon dating, at least — as an object that is a thousand years older. And by 2100, an object could seem the same as another object that is 2,000 or so years old. Says the study, "At the rate fossil fuel emissions are currently increasing, by 2050 a new T-shirt would have the same radiocarbon date as a robe worn by William the Conqueror a thousand years earlier." This could be a big problem for researchers in the future, as carbon dating is used for many purposes, including things like assessing artwork, analyzing and dating historical discoveries, and more. http://www.slashgear.com/fossil-fuels-may-cripple-carbon-dating-accuracy-21393835/

Turin Shroud, Carbon Dating. Separating the facts from the fudge once and for all. This is an excerpt from an interview with official shroud photographer and expert Barrie Schwortz (http://www.shroud.com) speaking about the radiocarbon dating of the shroud of Turin and how subsequent peer-reviewed scientific findings invalidated the premature conclusions drawn from the test results of the 1988 C14 dating. Deviant, unscientific methods were used in collecting the test samples violating the protocols previously agreed to. All three lab samples came from a single postage stamp-sized cut which happened to be from a medieval patch that had been woven into the shroud which had previously been advised about not to be sampled from. The carbon-dating was accurate, the samples were not and did not represent the chemical composition of the main part of the shroud. Bad science begets bad results however it does make good propaganda in the media echo chamber which gladly ignores the hundreds of other scientific and historical data points that indicate authenticity not to mention the inexplicable nature of the shroud image that defies any modern scientific explanation and all attempts to recreate the image despite yet more hollow claims perpetuated by mass media and the popular ignorance of the day. The hard scientific facts will matter not one iota to the beliefs of militant atheists and secular fundamentalists (pseudo-skeptics of the day), simply because said beliefs were never founded on such, but rather bitter emotions, self-deception, vast ignorance (accentuated by immense arrogance), attitude, shallowness, historical-illiteracy, naivety, lack of discernment, gullibility, self-deception, hostility and hatred for all things Christian (which for them, like science, cannot be distinguished from imitations and counterfeits for many of the same reasons). It's only fitting that real science should support the scriptures for it is the scriptures themselves that inspired nearly all the founders of the modern fields of science to begin with as they themselves declared and often lectured and wrote about, including Newton, Faraday, Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Mendel, Pasteur, Kelvin, Boyle, Planck, Cuvier, Linnaeus, Maxwell, Ray, Boyd, Bacon, Pascal, Steno, Joule, Morse, etc, etc. this also makes sense of why none of the founders of the modern fields of science were ever Atheists (MAYBE there's a rare exception somewhere???). Atheists can only leech off the Christian establishment of science, imitate science, and claim it as their exclusive territory while simultaneously attacking the very belief system that developed it, namely, a logical, transcendent Creator of the Laws of Nature whose handiwork declares his brilliance and beckons us to more and more discovery -- "thinking God's thoughts after him" as Kepler put. Many people believe that carbon dating has proven the Biblical timeline is not scientifically valid. It supposedly dates some material beyond 6,000 years. Because the theory of evolution requires millions of years to be viable, a young earth position is in direct opposition to that theory. However, in many cases carbon dating has not assisted evolutionists in the attempt to prove the theory of evolution. Take coal, for example. If in fact it is millions of years old it should have no traces of carbon -14 in it. However scientists to date have not yet found any coal completely lacking all carbon 14. While this may baffle many scientists it makes perfect sense to creation scientists who believe that the earth is relatively young.
