Sunday June 6, 1993: A wing of the Holbeck Hall Hotel on Britain's east coast collapses into the sea as the cliff wall beneath it gives way. It happens at the exact moment Yorkshire TV's Calendar programme goes on the air, with the presenter, the great Richard Whiteley, positioned in front of the building. The first part of the clip, recorded from the studio feed before it went on air and with director Dave Behrens heard on gallery talkback, is from a documentary screened shortly after Richard's death.

Karachi's colonial-era buildings falling into disrepair

05:41
(26 Dec 2015) LEAD-IN: The architetural treasures of Karachi's colonial era buildings are falling into disrepair. Now the fight is on to save these historical buildings but property developers are less sympathetic about their plight, eyeing the value in the real estate for modern high-rise developments. STORY-LINE : This beautiful building is falling into disrepair. Shafquat House in downtown Karachi in Pakistan is one of many such buildings that are in desperate need of some attention, otherwise they could be lost forever. Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi is steeped in history, and is a veritable treasure trove of historical landmarks and heritage sites like this. The architecture and buildings, particularly in the old town centre, are full of colonial era structures. But instead of being preserved as part of the city's rich cultural heritage, the majority of these majestic structures have been allowed to fall into a state of absolute disrepair. Decades of neglect have resulted in some heritage sites reduced to abandoned structures. "A sizable number of these buildings are getting dilapidated. And in many cases, the residents themselves are not taking any kind of interest in their restoration. And there are multiple reasons for that. In many cases, the buildings that we have identified, they actually exist in places where the land values have increased tremendously. And as a consequence, the owners and occupants are of the view that if these buildings are allowed to deteriorate and completely get demolished, then maybe, there will be a time, when they will be able to get them removed and construct new high-rise, high-density structures, which will be more lucrative and rewarding for them," says Dr Noman Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Architecture & Planning, Nadirshaw Eduljee Dinshaw (NED) University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi. Environmental degradation has also impacted these historical monuments. The high levels of atmospheric pollution, smog, and the proximity to the sea, as well environmentally damaging local industry have all contributed to their downfall. Yasmeen Lari, who runs the Heritage Foundation, is a champion of Karachi's historical sites. According to her, environmental factors as well as the greed of not only government officials but building owners have also resulted in the slow erosion and sometimes overnight demolition of such structures. "So, I think, all the politicians have to be very mindful. And unless they are mindful, I feel, they are… either they make them into touristic attractions, so they destroy heritage from that point of view, because rather than keeping the authenticity and integrity of the structure, they start making them modern, or making them look new, which is, again, not the thing to be done. So, there is a lot of awareness that we have to bring about among our politicians, among the general public. And most of all, I feel, we have to empower people to tell them that look, you can also save your structure that is right down the road," says Yasmeen Lari, the Chair & CE, Heritage Foundation. Her organisation has helped to catalogue Karachi's architectural legacy and has published a list of 600 structures that should be listed as heritage sites. They were also able to get a law enacted that prohibits destruction and demolition of such buildings. The law builds upon a British era antiquities law that safeguards such structures. Yet, according to experts, buildings and structures are sometimes de-notified to facilitate demolition and replacement by high-rises. Nonetheless, the antiquities department has taken steps to preserve the culture and heritage of Karachi. Over a thousand more structures have been added to the initial list of 600. If you go to most old areas, you can almost see the history pouring out from the ancient buildings and temples, but they are almost never maintained. This problem is to the point where we are having a difficult time finding anything that is more than 50 years old, simply because it is all collapsed. This isn't limited to old things either. 23 Cool Sculptures You Won't Believe Actually Exist

07:23
Which of these pieces did you find the most incredible? Let us know in the comments below. Subscribe to our channel for more amazing videos just like this, thanks for watching! 15 - Cinderella Effect… Hungary is where you will find The Shoes, there are on the Danube Bank in Budapest. It was the idea of Can Togay, a film director and sculpted by Gyula Pauer – and was placed there to honour the Jews who were killed in WW2. Fascist Arrow Cross Militiamen told them to remove their shoes, and they were shot at the water’s edge. 14 - The world in her hands… This is a series of sculptures called Force of Nature, created by Lorenzo Quinn. There are several of these statures around the globe, and they all depict women holding the earth in some way. You can find them in the US, UK, Singapore and Monaco. 13 - Just hanging out… This statue is found in Prague, and it’s called Man Hanging Out. The statue is actually of Sigmund Freud, and was created in 1996 by David Cerny, a Czech Sculptor. It’s meant to indicate Intellectualism during the 20th century, and David Cerny’s unsureness about it. 12 - Relaxing in the tub… That is literally the biggest bath in the world, and work is called The Bather, or Die Badende in German. Artist, Oliver Voss, created this sculptor using foam and steel, and it was 13 feet high and about 99 feet long. It was in the Binnenalster Lake in Hamburg for 10 days. 11 - Creativity Takes Courage… And David Cerny, whom we mentioned earlier, has many very controversial pieces of art around the world. This one is much tamer, and called Metalmorphosis. It’s in North Carolina and there are 40 steel pieces, grouped together into 7 segments – which rotate 360 degrees, whilst spitting water out into the lake. 10 - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle… This beautiful Sea Horse was created by Jeffro Uitto, who collected the pieces of drift wood, and affirms that no live trees were hurt during his art process. His business is called Knock on Wood, and he is from Washington. 9 - Breaking through… Passer Through Walls is a statue found in Paris, which is based upon a character written by Marcel Ayme. The character realizes that he can walk through walls, so begins a life of crime and adultery. During his last escapade, the magic stops – and he gets trapped inside the wall. 8 - It always seems impossible, until its done… That is one of the most famous Nelson Mandela Quotes, and this incredible structure was designed by South African artist, Marco Cianfanelli. It was created to celebrate the 50-year Anniversary of Mandela’s imprisonment by Apartheid police in 1962. There are 50 columns for each year, and it’s placed in Howick where the arrest too place. You have to see it from the right angle, to see the face of Mandela. 7 - Letting Go… There is something so ethereal about these wire sculptures created by Robin Wright, a UK Based artist. They are of fairies dancing in the wind, and some are very small and others life-like. They are formed in dramatic poses, and all have dandelions or a part of nature with them. 6 - The Power of Books… It’s incredible how art can be created from anything, and this amazing sculptor was put together by Mike Stilkey. He uses old books that are going to be recycled and creates these beautiful pieces with colored pencils, ink, lacquer and paint. 5 - Perfection Takes Time… This installation is known as the Kelpies, and too Andy Scott 8 years to put together. They are 100 feet tall, and the inspiration behind them is the legend of a water spirit that takes the shape of horses. The sculptors are the entrance to the Forth and Clyde canal in Scotland. 4 - Art that moves you… Anthony Howe is the creator of some incredible abstract and kinetic structures. He uses metal and polymers to create some of the most exquisite mobile art in the world. Some structures are as tall as 25-feet high, and they are pretty mesmerizing to watch. 3 - Who dares wake me from slumber? You can sort of hear this giant yelling that from beneath the grass, can’t you? This giant man is called, and I translate – Ripped Up or Popped up. It’s the creation of Hungarian artist, Ervin Loranth Herve, and was a temporary installation at Budapest’s Szechnyi Square for a special art market fair that took place. 2 - Are you brave enough? One of Lithuania’s most celebrated statues, is the Black Ghost found in Klaipeda. Visit this statue on a dreary rainy day, and it will leave you a bit spooked for the rest of the day. Legend says if you befriend the statue, you will have fortune and riches to follow. 1 - Follow your art… As I said earlier – it’s amazing what people use to create art. Maurizio Savini uses chewing gum to create some very realistic sculptures, but he really doesn’t like it when people ask him if he chewed every piece! He has t assistants that melt the gum down, ready for his creative use.

Shismaref, the arctic town falling into the sea through climate change , Alaska

02:06
Shismaref, the arctic town falling into the sea through climate change ,alaska ccording to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.3 square miles (19 km2), of which, 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) of it is land and 4.5 square miles (12 km2) of it (61.62%) is water. Shishmaref was named in 1821 by explorer Lt. Otto von Kotzebue, of the Imperial Russian Navy, after Capt. Lt. Gleb Shishmaryov who accompanied him on his exploration. Sarichef Island (on which Shishmaref is located) is part of a dynamic, 100 km-long barrier island chain that records human and environmental history spanning the past 2000 years; the oldest subaerial evidence for the formation of this system is about 1700 years before present, according to carbon 14 dating (see References, below). Erosion at Shishmaref is unique along the islands because of its fetch exposure and high tidal prism, relatively intense infrastructure development during the 20th century, and multiple shoreline defense structures built beginning in the 1970s. Global warming Ambox current red.svg This section needs to be updated. Please update this article to reflect recent events or newly available information. (August 2016) The effect of global climate change upon Shishmaref is sometimes seen as the most dramatic in the world.[8] Rising temperatures have resulted in a reduction in the sea ice which serves to buffer Shishmaref from storm surges. At the same time, the permafrost that the village is built on has also begun to melt, making the shore even more vulnerable to erosion. In recent years the shore has been receding at an average rate of up to 10 feet (3.3 m) per year.[9] Although a series of barricades has been put up to protect the village, the shore has continued to erode at an alarming rate. The town's homes, water system and infrastructure are being undermined.[10][11][12][13][14] Currently, Shishmaref has obtained funds to construct seawalls that protect some of the shoreline. The village had plans to relocate several miles to the south, on the mainland to the Tin Creek site. However, Tin Creek proved unsuitable for long term settlement due to melting permafrost in the area. The Shishmaref Erosion and Relocation Coalition, made up of the city, the IRA Council and other organizations, is seeking federal, state and private funding for a move elsewhere. The cost of moving Shishmaref is estimated at $180 million, nearly $320,000 per resident. The village was told by the Obama administration that no federal money was available, therefore tensions arose in 2013 when John Kerry announced Vietnam would receive $17 million to deal with climate change. Erosion rates along the island front exceed (and are not comparable with) those along adjacent sectors. Erosion is occurring along the entire island chain, but it is exacerbated at Sarichef Island in part because of the hydrographic impacts of hard armoring of a sandy shoreface and permafrost degradation that is accelerated by infrastructure. Residents are experiencing the effects of coastal retreat on residential and commercial properties. On August 16, 2016, the village voted to move the town to the mainland.[15] Culture Shishmaref is a traditional Inupiaq Eskimo village. Residents rely heavily on a subsistence lifestyle, hunting and gathering much of their food. Primary food sources include sea mammals such as oogruk (bearded seal), other seals and walrus, fish, birds (such as ptarmigan), caribou and moose. The village is well known in the region for its high-quality seal oil and fermented meat.[citation needed] It is known for its Native art. Local carvings of whalebone and walrus ivory are sought after by galleries in Alaska and the Lower 48. Shishmaref was home to one of Alaska's most-beloved dog mushers. Herbie Nayokpuk, known as the "Shishmaref Cannonball", died in December 2006. He finished the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race numerous times, including a second-place finish. It is sometimes referred to as "the friendliest village in Alaska."[16] Researchers, journalists and the occasional tourist visit Shishmaref, and the city has acquired a reputation for being a gracious host. Japan Declares Crisis As Fukushima Reactor Begins Falling Into Ocean And Radiation Levels Soar★★★

05:23
Unimaginable Disaster: Japan Declares Crisis As Fukushima Reactor Begins Falling Into The Pacific Ocean And Radiation Soars To The Highest Levels Ever Seen. The latest developments at Japan's Fukushima reactor have been described as "unimaginable"and "unprecedented". Officials state that damages at the reactor are "far worse than previously thought". Melted fuel has come in contact with underground water and the melted core appears spread over an "extensive area". Radiation levels at the Fukushima reactor have also soared to their highest levels since the 2011 disaster. The radiation levels inside the containment vessel of the number 2 reactor at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex stood at 530 sieverts per hour, the highest since the 2011 disaster, the plant operator said on Thursday. Previously the highest radiation level monitored in the interior of the reactor had been 73 sieverts per hour. The new radiation level, has been described by some experts as “unimaginable,”. These are record high fatal radiation levels, according to the institute. Another truly unsettling revelation about the Fukushima problem came as a boss revealed 600 tons of fuel melted, and they can’t find it. “Uncontrollable fission” is continuing under the site. 5 Demolitions Gone Extremely Wrong!

04:46
5 Demolitions Gone Extremely Wrong! Description: There’s something about explosives that gets people excited. We all enjoy making an impression and demolitions certainly do just that. With the noise, smoke, and destruction that demolition teams create the overall effect is hard to deny. Some people, however, don’t seem to take the danger seriously, perhaps getting a little too excited about making some noise. The following lists covers 5 demolitions gone extremely wrong. Whether they took their job seriously or not, these demo ‘experts’ don’t quite live up to the hype. Let’s Begin! 5. Ukraine Demo Fail Of course Ukraine takes a spot on our list. This epic fail of a demolition has garnered international attention due to its similarity to Italy’s leaning tower of Pisa. After an impressive blast rocks the entire midsection of the apartment building, it drops, leans, then pauses indefinitely. That’s gotta be a safety hazard, but it seems safety isn’t much of a priority to this group of engineers. Perhaps they were drunk and having a bit of fun, but chances are they’re simply inept. Given the surrounding landscape and location we wouldn’t be surprised if this guy somehow ended up getting himself a promotion out of this halfhearted attempt. 4. Liverpool Apartments Refuse to Drop They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. Two apartment buildings refused to go down in the UK, much to the chagrin of neighbouring residents. After the first attempt managed to do absolutely nothing to the two buildings a second attempt was launched. Thankfully, one of the towers dropped after round two, but the second remained steadfastly upright and intact. With the second building still standing it remained a public safety hazard so people who lived nearby were forced to spend a few nights in hotels. Another attempt loosed only one side of the remaining building, tossing rubble and debris into adjoining yards. After already being inconvenienced it would be a further insult to find your backyard demolished as well. We’re sure there must have been a ton of angry calls to city hall in Liverpool that week. 3. Mad River Power Plant This power plant, located on Ohio’s Mad River, certainly lives up to its name. When the stack was supposed to be demolished in full ceremonial splendour. The problem is that the stack had other plans. Maybe it objected to being torn down after years of service or maybe an engineer made a few not-so-minor miscalculations. When the stack toppled, it fell the wrong way and directly onto a set of power lines. Given that they were located right next to what was recently an active plant, these lines were pretty important. When they were hit, the lines that carried 12,500 volts to 4000 nearby residents caused an impressive fireworks display. 2. Broadway Bridge, Arkansas A further example that proves they don’t make ‘em the way they used to. This bridge was 93 years old and deemed structurally unsound before it was scheduled for demolition. Turns out it didn’t want to go down and put up a rather impressive fight. Unlike a few of our earlier demos gone wrong, this bridge eventually went down after five full hours. Experts all agree that this demolition should have taken a minute at the very most. After the initial footage was taken, crowds gathered to check out the unbreakable bridge and were able to catch some pretty impressive shots of the structure lazily collapsing into the river below. Thankfully, this demolition ended up going off without a hitch and nobody was injured or otherwise inconvenienced. The crew, however, was probably seriously embarrassed by their fail. 1. Playful Building, Turkey This building that was supposed to be demolished in one go decided it wasn’t done having fun at the expense of the rest of the neighbourhood. After the initial blast took out a large midsection of the building, but failed to destroy one wall, the building sagged and toppled before rolling over onto its top. It ended up coming to a full stop as close as it possibly could to the building next to it without actually causing any serious damage. Luckily nobody was hurt, but it just goes to show that sloppy work never pays off in the long run. How anyone could miss an entire wall, given the proximity to other, populated building is simply astounding. Most MYSTERIOUS Ocean Facts!

11:50
Check out these top unexplained mysteries of the deep ocean. From strange sounds captured in the deep sea by hydrophones such as the bloop, the train, and julia, to gigantic whirlpools, biggest underwater falls and the milky bioluminescent sea phenomenon. Are deep sea monsters living deep in the ocean? Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "12 Historical Treasures In The Middle East DESTROYED!" video here: https://youtu.be/Nt9mWUpTp1U Watch our "Most HAUNTED Places In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/h9elrDhft9w Watch our "Most DANGEROUS Religious Cults Ever!" video here: https://youtu.be/VTD1qabI3v0 9. Underwater Falls Voted one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. On the Southwestern tip of the island you will find a fascinating illusion. When viewed from above, a runoff of sand and silt deposits creates the impression of an ‘underwater waterfall’. But did you know there are actually real underwater waterfalls? Seven waterfalls have been discovered deep underwater. The tallest waterfall on Earth is not Angel Falls, but an underwater waterfall called Denmark Strait Cataract located in the Atlantic ocean between Greenland and Iceland. It is the world's highest underwater waterfall, with water falling almost 11,500 feet and carries 175 million cubic feet of water per second. It is caused due to temperature differences in the water on either side of the strait. Cold water is denser than warm water. And the eastern side of the strait is a lot colder than the western side. So when the waters meet, the cold water sinks below the warmer water, creating a strong downward flow, which is considered a waterfall. And it's not just waterfalls that are under the ocean. There are huge secret rivers, complete with rapids and islands that flow down the sea shelves out into the desert plains creating river banks and flood plains. Here's a picture of the river Cenote Angelita under the sea of Mexico. These salty rivers carry sediments and minerals and could be vital in sustaining life. The world's sixth largest river, by volume, is below the Black Sea. It is 350 times larger than the Thames and 150 feet deep in places. 8. Milky Sea Phenomenon For over 400 years, sailors told tales of a mysterious event that takes place far out in the Indian Ocean. They would come across miles and miles of milky glowing waters, sometimes stretching as far as the eye could see. In 2005, a group of scientists led by Dr. Steven Miller of the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, Calif., decided to take a closer look at this story to see if it was true. They managed to register about 235 observations and get a satellite image that showed an area of low lighting in the Indian Ocean about the size of Connecticut. Their samples that they collected indicated the presence of a type of bioluminescent bacteria in the water, known as Vibrio harveyi. This isn't the same kind of bacteria that you might see in waves that use their bright light to ward off predators. This bioluminescent bacteria may actually use light to attract fish, since its favorite place to live is inside a fish's gut. Scientists' guess is that since they only emit a very faint light on their own, they have to gather together to make an impact. Their collective glow can grow to massive, milky sea proportions when their numbers swell to a huge amount -- think 40 billion trillion. They may also congregate to colonize algae. Sounds like a party! It is still only a guess since Dr. Miller and his colleagues haven't determined exactly what causes the bacteria to gather. 7. Unexplained sounds Of course dark, creepy fog can make you jump at anything that goes bump in the night. But what about things that go "bloop" in the sea? With names like "The Bloop," "Train" and "Julia," the sounds have been captured by hydrophones, or underwater microphones, monitored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The decidedly nonspooky nicknames for these sounds do little to dispel the mystery surrounding them. In 1997, NOAA hydrophones 3,000 miles apart picked up one of the loudest sounds ever recorded off the southern coast of South America: the Bloop (which sounds exactly like its name, a bloop). The Bloop mimics marine animal sounds in some ways, but if it were some kind of sea creature it would have to be almost the size of the Eiffel tower for that sound to be heard from 3,000 miles away. So what made the sound? It's anyone's guess but deep-sea monsters aside, NOAA holds the most likely explanation for The Bloop is that it was the sound of a large iceberg fracturing. Sure.... Another weird noise known as Julia sounds almost like someone whining or maybe even singing under water. The eastern equatorial Pacific autonomous array (the fancy name for the network of hydrophones) picked up this strange sound that lasted 15 seconds in 1999.

Most Amazing Cities Found UNDERWATER!

Here is the top list of mysterious sunken underwater cities in the world found underwater! These strange and mindblowing but also amazing forgotten ancient underwater ruins are located deep into the ocean. Yonaguni Pyramids In the mid 80s, Divers found underwater rock terraces and pyramids off the coast of Yonaguni Jima. Yonaguni Jima is an island that lies near the southern tip of Japan's Ryukyu archipelago, About 75 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan. At first scientists believed they might be natural formations, but There are quarry marks and some writing on the stones and animal statues that have also been found underwater. Now some experts believe that The structures Could be what is left of the mythical city of Mu, a fabled Pacific civilization rumored to have vanished beneath the waves. Masaki Kimura, a marine geologist from the University of Japan, Has been studying the underwater pyramids for over 15 years. The underwater structures include castle ruins, a triumphal arch, five temples and at least one large stadium, all of which are Connected by roads and water channels and are partly shielded by what could be huge retaining walls. Kimura believes the ruins date back to at least 5,000 years, based on the dates of stalactites found inside underwater caves that he says sank with the city. The theory is that the ancient underwater city Might have been sunk by an earthquake or tsunami around 2,000 years ago. Yonaguni invites tourists and researchers to dive freely around the site. 2. Sunken City of Cuba In 2001, A company called Advanced Digital Communications (ADC) was working with Fidel Castro's government to explore Cuban waters looking for sunken Spanish ships loaded with treasure. Their Sonar equipment picked up a series of geometrical structures lying on the bottom of the ocean. Here's a computer generated image of the pyramids and other structures found underwater. The structures and design made it look like there was A gigantic underwater city at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle. The media went crazy claiming that Atlantis had been discovered in Cuba. There are local legends of the Maya and native Yucatecos that tell of an Island inhabited by their ancestors that vanished beneath the waves. If it's true the structures were made by an ancient civilization, they would have been the Most technologically advanced structures on the planet at that time. Scientists estimate that they would have been built about 50,000 years ago which doesn't seem very likely. The numerous structures and cities that have been discovered underwater around the world Lie less than 120 meters (or 395 feet) below sea level, which comes as no surprise since the sea level never fell below this mark during the time Homo sapiens walked the earth. This Cuban city, if we can call it that, is the Only exception since It is submerged over 700 meters (2300 feet) underwater. If the large structures are actually pyramids, 2 of them are Even larger than the pyramids of Giza and Cheops in Egypt. As of yet there is no plausible explanation for the existence of this city and ADC is still trying to investigate the site. 3. Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca is Located in the Andes between Bolivia and Peru. It is the largest freshwater lake in South America and was the cradle of Peru's ancient civilizations, including the Inca. Their presence can be seen on Lake Titicaca by the ruins they left behind, including A mysterious underwater temple thought to be between 1,000 and 1,500 years old. In the Incan creation myth, The god Con Tiqui Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca. After commanding the sun, moon, and the stars to rise, Viracocha created more human beings from stone. After bringing them to life, Viracocha Commanded them to go and populate the world. The Incas therefore believed that Lake Titicaca was their place of origin, and that upon death, Their spirits would return to this lake. Archeologists located a huge temple in 2000 after following a submerged road (and I'm sure following advice from locals). After 18 days of diving below the clear waters of Titicaca, scientists said they had Discovered a 660-foot long, 160-foot wide temple, a terrace for crops, and a 2,600-foot containing wall along with gold and statues. It is said the lost city was Covered with sediment during a great flood of biblical proportions and local people had passed down the stories of the underwater temple and flood from generation to generation.

The sky is falling! Hailstorm of building tiles rains down on unsuspecting pedestrians - TomoNews

00:44
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - In Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, two pedestrians were injured in two different areas after a recent cold snap caused tiles to rain down off of buildings. So far, over 67 buildings have been shedding their tiles due to the sudden temperature change from warm to cold. Many of the tiles plastered to buildings are only an exterior facade. The sudden temperature changes caused the metal or plaster of the building to shrink and expand at different rates to the cement holding the tile to the surface. Construction crews with some assistance from the fire department have been working on removing and replacing old tile facades. But in the meantime, the government warns everyone to walk under the covered walkways and to watch out for falling tiles. ------------------------------------------------------------- For animated news, visit our channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/AppleDailyEnglish Subscribe to stay updated on all the top stories: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=AppleDailyEnglish

Dropping an iPhone X Down 4000 FT Deep Hole! - What's In There?

05:08
So I dropped the new iPhone X down a 4000+ ft. deep mine hole and recorded it all to see what happens. So here's how my experiment went down. The fishing line I bought was 1329 yards (3987 ft.) When the line ran out I was pretty disappointed thinking it's just dangling but the iPhone footage shows it seems to have hit something. I assume the line just kept unraveling despite the phone landing, unless it just landed on a ledge or something and actually was 4000 feet deep? Hard to tell but after the initial 2-3 second drag delay, the iPhone was going down pretty fast and for like a good three minutes. The Village Thats Falling into the Sea - HQ documentary

27:37
Thursday 5 December 2013 is a night the residents of the Norfolk seaside resort of Hemsby will never forget. That night homes fell into the sea during the worst storm surge to hit the East Coast for sixty years. David Whiteley witnessed the drama unfold. Seven months on he returns to find the community still fighting for the survival of their village. Hemsby is a village people fall in love with. It is the site of one of the country's first holiday camps, and tourists still flock there today to enjoy its beautiful sandy beach. But with no hope of government money to protect it, villagers have seen almost 70 homes go over the edge and into the sea. Seeking advice from erosion experts and business gurus, and building their own defences, the residents are determined not to let Hemsby be lost to the sea. David joins the villagers in their latest campaign, meets the people about to buy a home on the threatened dunes and goes with the map man who's quite literally been redrawing the map of the East coast over 40 years of erosion.

10 People who Fell into Animal Enclosures at Zoos

Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Find us on... -- http://www.boredbadger.com -- http://www.facebook.com/world5list Zoos are a place for the average person to see animals they might not ever get the chance to observe in the wild. Zoos also have the purpose of conserving certain species, trying to make sure they don't die out to extinction.. and in other cases they can be a sanctuary against poaching and hunters. Levan Merritt 1986 As encounters with great apes go, Harambe wasn't the first incident of a child falling into a gorilla enclosure. It happened at the Durrell Wildlife Park in Jersey, Channel Islands in the UK, when Five year old Levan Merrit somehow fell into the zoo's gorilla enclosure, falling far enough that he lost consciousness when he hit the ground. Beijing Zoo 2009 Pandas. They're endangered, and they're absolutely adorable. That cuteness draws in many crazy panda-fans for Gugu, a panda at the Beijing Zoo. People come from all over to see him, and more than a few have snuck into his enclosure. Pittsburgh zoo, 2012 For all of these stories, a surprising number don't end with someone being killed, considering they're usually just feet from dangerous and unpredictable predators. But fatalities unfortunately do still happen sometimes, as was the case for two year old Maddox Derkosh. Detroit Zoo, 1990 The Detroit zoo is a popular destination for many who wish to admire the wildlife of the world, and apparently also for those who like going where they shouldn’t be. This time though, the story has a happy ending, and the man had a good reason for jumping in. 33-year-old Rick Swope was enjoying his day at the Detroit zoo until he came across the chimpanzee exhibit. Berlin Zoo, 2009 The case of the Berlin zoo polar bear attack incident in 2009 is both mysterious and sketchy, and not much is known right down to the name of the woman involved in this incident on our list. Cleveland Metro parks Zoo, 2015 Once again, another case of a two-year-old boy being held on top of the protective railing and falling into an enclosure with several dangerous animals. Santiago Metropolitan zoo Suicide is never the answer. No matter what you might think, someone's going to be devastated by it, your community will be impacted, your loved ones will be at a loss without you and you'll be sorely missed by many. Little Rock Zoo, 2015 A young child went to the Little Rock zoo with his father and grandfather for some fun, and multi generational bonding time. Brookfield Zoo, 1996 Here we have a more feel-good story. A young child fell into the gorilla exhibit, and was set upon by a terrifying silverback female gorilla named Binti Jua. Toronto Zoo, 2016 A visitor to the Toronto Zoo must have really like her hat, because she jumped down from the observation deck and right next to a flimsy fence that had a tiger behind it, in order to retrieve it. Amidst people yelling at her, calling her a "moron", the woman leaped down and grabbed the hat while the tiger pounced on the fence separating them, desperately trying to get at her.

17 Most Unreal Rock Formations

07:46
Tourist from all over the world travel to these amazing destinations to see the strange but beautiful rock formations nature has made. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr #10 Salt Piles at Salar de Uyuni Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, is one of the most distinct natural landmarks in the world. The immense plains of salt are viewable from space and are a huge attraction for tourists and photographers. After rainfall, the plains turn into an enormous reflective mirror that creates a surreal landscape. The piles of salt ready for harvest only add to the uncanny imagery. # 9 Giant’s Causeway The Giant’s Causeway is a huge oceanside area in Northern Ireland comprised of giant interlocking columns of basalt rock. Most of the columns are hexagonal in shape and perfectly fit together creating a surreal almost game-like environment. Scientifically speaking the columns were created by an ancient volcanic explosion, but it gains its name from the popular legend that the cliffs were built as a causeway by a giant in ancient times. # 8 Balance Rock In the Garden of Gods in Colorado Springs there are a plethora of beautiful red rock formations, but possibly the most iconic of these rocks is Balance Rock - a huge boulder that seems like it could fall over at any moment. It is destined to fall over eventually when erosion or another damage dislodges it from its gripping points. Go and see Balance Rock before it falls over and becomes just a normal rock. # 7 Balancing Rock, Canada There is another precarious rock, but this seems to be even more impossible. The Balancing Rock in Nova Scotia is believed to be standing for thousands of years. It’s about 30 feet tall and seems to be just standing straight up out of pure will. # 6 Fly Geyser This erupting rock is Fly Geyser, an accidental man-made geothermal geyser in Washoe County. The fountain was created in 1964 when people were exploring sources of geothermal energy and accidentally drilled into a well. The well was never capped properly and has now become a geyser that shoots water into the air, creating the ever growing rock formation around it. It looks like a weird alien structure because of thermophilic algae that thrive in the high temperatures Fly Geyser generates. # 5 Split Apple Rock Tokangawhā, aka Split Apple Rock, is a geological rock formation off the coast of South Island of New Zealand. It is a structure made of granite and looks almost like it was deliberately cut in half. This cleft was natural, though, with no help from any humans. What exactly could have cut this boulder in half is a mystery although theories include water creeping into the rock, freezing, and expanding to break the rock. It’s a popular spot for tourists to take the exact same photo every year. # 4 Moeraki Boulders The Moeraki Boulders are unusually large and spherical boulders that are spread along Koekohe Beach on the Otago coast of New Zealand. Local Maori legends explain the boulders as the remains of eel baskets from the large sailing canoe that brought Maori people to the island hundreds of years ago. These stones are usually hollow but sometimes they are filled with calcite and quartz, which makes it look very interesting when they are broken open or exposed. # 3 Folding Rocks at Agia Pavlos These interesting looking rocks are known commonly as the Folding Rocks. They are sedimentary limestone layers were once layered horizontally at the bottom of the sea, but tectonic plates pushed them together and forced them upwards. # 2 Torghatten Torghatten is a granite mountain on Torget island in Norway. As far as mountains go it looks pretty uncharacteristic and lumpy except for the giant gaping hole right in the middle of it. According to legend, the mountain hole was made by a troll who was chasing a beautiful girl. Knowing he could never catch the girl he shot an arrow at her, but the Troll King threw his hat to save her and that hat turned into the mountain. Sounds pretty legit to me. # 1 Abandoned Russian Salt Mine This abandoned Russian Salt Mine looks more like a scene from a trippy art house movie. The naturally occurring minerals in the abandoned mine create psychedelic patterns and structures which create unique swirls. While the naturally occurring art in these walls are beautiful, exploring the mines are not without danger. There are hazards of falling, landslides, and low visibility, but it might be worth facing to see this one of a kind place.

Firefighters were called to clear ice from the top of 311 Elm Street. Evidently the ice was hitting cars parked on the street below. Pedestrians walking on the street could have been hit. Shipping container family home: building blocks in Redwoods

09:33
Shipping container playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMRx8kgwkvhJ7C_htu4x5i_-rCYapdlDC Kam Kasravi and Connie Dewitt wanted a modern cabin that wouldn't disrupt the Redwoods on their property. First they considered prefabs, but quickly realized they wouldn't fit up the narrow road to their land in the Santa Cruz mountains. So they convinced their friend, architect David Fenster, to design them a home made from shipping containers. Built from recycled cargo containers hand-picked from the Port of Oakland, Six Oaks was built around the footprint of the land. The containers were building blocks that were cut and stacked to fit between Redwoods along a steep grade. While the home was assembled in 6 hours, it took nearly a year to finish the interior since so much of it was custom. The unique materials meant some unique requirements: instead of carpenters, they used welders; a commercial roofer had to be hired, etc. Acoording to Connie, it wasn't "the cheapest way to build", but It cost about $50 per square foot less than a more conventional custom home. They didn't aim to build an extreme home, but the couple feel confident their home will hold up well under extreme conditions- i.e. falling trees, forest fires. Connie jokes that if a tree does fall on the home, "it will get a little dent and we'll call the auto body shop to fix the house".
