How to Create Custom Database Roles in Oracle Clinical and Remote Data Capture (RDC)

25:06
Learn how to create new custom database roles in Oracle Clinical and Remote Data Capture (RDC). -- One of the fundamental requirements of 21 CFR Part 11 is controlling user access in clinical trial applications. You do not want to unintentionally give someone access to something he or she should not have. To avoid these situations, Oracle Clinical and Remote Data Capture (RDC) comes with a set of predefined database roles that system administrators can set to enable users to perform specific tasks, yet prevent them from taking actions they are not authorized to take. While the predefined roles serve as a good starting point, it is critical for organizations to decide which roles make sense for the way they do business. In such cases, it may be beneficial to create new custom roles. While this process is not overly complex, it is easy to overlook several aspects that can make all the difference. Perficient’s Tammy Dutkin, director of Clinical Data Management and EDC, demonstrates how organizations can take ownership of their own database roles to ensure they remain compliant. R tutorial: connecting to a database

03:38
Learn more about connecting to databases with R: https://www.datacamp.com/courses/importing-data-in-r-part-2 Welcome to part two of importing data in R! The previous course dealt with accessing data stored in flat files or excel files. In a professional setting, you'll also encounter data stored in relational databases. In this video, I'll briefly talk about what a relational database is and then I'll explain how you can connect to it. In the next video, I'll explain how you can import data from it! So, what's a relational database? There's no better way to show this than with an example. Take this database, called company. It contains three tables, employees, products and sales. Like a flat file, information is displayed in a table format. The employees table has 5 records and three fields, namely id, name and started_at. The id here serves as a unique key for each row or record. Next, the products table contains the details on four products. We're dealing with data from a telecom company that's selling both with and without a contract. Also here, each product has an identifier. Finally, there's the sales table. It lists what products were sold by who, when and for what price. Notice here that the ids in employee_id and product_id correspond to the ids that you can find in the employees and products table respectively. The third sale for example, was done by the employee with id 6, so Julie. She sold the product with id 9, so the Biz Unlimited contract. These relations make this database very powerful. You only store all necessary information once in nicely separated tables, but can connect the dots between different records to model what's happening. How the data in a relational database is stored and shuffled around when you make adaptations, depends on the so-called database management system, or DBMS you're using. Open-source implementations such as MySQL, postgreSQL and SQLite are very popular, but there are also proprietary implementations such as Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL server. Practically all of these implementations use SQL, or sequel, as the language for querying and maintaining the database. SQL stands for Structured Query Language. Depending on the type of database you want to connect to, you'll have to use different packages. Suppose the company database I introduced before is a MySQL database. This means you'll need the RMySQL package. For postgreSQL you'll need RpostgreSQL, for Oracle, you'll use ROracle and so on. How you interact with the database, so which R functions you use to access and manipulate the database, is specified in another R package called DBI. In more technical terms, DBI is an interface, and RMySQL is the implementation. Let's install the RMySQL package, which automatically installs the DBI package as well. Loading only the DBI package will be enough to get started. The first step is creating a connection to the remote MySQL database. You do this with dbConnect(), as follows. The first argument specifies the driver that you will use to connect to the MySQL database. It sure looks a bit strange, but the MySQL() function from the RMySQL package simply constructs a driver for us that dbConnect can use. Next, you have to specify the database name, where the database is hosted, through which port you want to connect, and finally the credentials to authenticate yourself. This is an actual database that we're hosting, so you can try these commands yourself! The result of the dbConnect call, con, is a DBI connection object. You'll need to pass this object to whatever function you're using to interact with the database. Before we do that, let's get familiar with this connection object in the exercises!

Using Oracle to read data from SQL Server

10:47
Hi everyone, Andy from Easysoft Limited here, what I want to show you today is how to get data from SQL Server into Oracle. Now for this we will be accessing SQL Server 2014 from Oracle 12 and getting data across. This could be quite easily be any SQL Server version from 2008 and any Oracle version from 11.2, the configuration and process is the same. We can obviously get access to data on SQL Server prior to 2008 and Oracle prior to version 11.2 but it will need a different configuration to what I am going to show you today The plan is also to add more data to the SQL Server table and show this new data back in Oracle. To start off you'll need access to ensure that you have access to your SQL Server and Oracle databases. You'll also need the Easysoft SQL Server ODBC Driver available from www.easysoft.com; just download it, install it and request the free 14 day trial licence. Before we start we need to make some changes to the standard Easysoft config files. cat /etc/odbc.ini Here I have changed Mars Connection to Yes. It must be set to "Yes" if you are connecting to SQL Server 2005 or newer. Easysoft supports all SQL data types from the version of SQL Server from version 7. Oracle supports data types that are common to most ODBC Drivers, but not some of the SQL Server ones. If you intend to access VARCHAR(MAX) for example, then there are some additional settings that need to be set up. Now as I would like to show you VARCHAR(MAX) data moving from SQL Server to Oracle, I have made the relevant change. As you can see, VarMaxAsLong says "Yes" We now need to create a link from Oracles Database Gateway (DG4ODBC) to the ODBC datasource that we already have, this is done in an init(sid) oracle file; let's have a look at our file. cat $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initsqlsrv.ora Please note that HS_NLS_NCHAR must be set to UCS2 Oracle assume that most database vendors use UTF-8 for wide characters, however Easysoft, like almost all ODBC Driver vendors (including Oracles own ODBC Driver) uses UCS2 for wide characters. So that's the link between DG4ODBC and the datasource setup correctly. Next we need to set up the Listener entry The Oracle Listener waits for incoming requests from the Oracle database. For the Oracle Listener to listen for requests, information about DG4ODBC must be added to the Oracle Listener configuration file, listener.ora cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora The PROGRAM=dg4odbc tells the Listener that we are wanting to use the Oracle database gateway to communicate with ODBC. The ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH tells Oracle what library to load Now that's all set up and OK we need to tell Oracle which server to attach the listener entry to. This is done in tnsnames.ora, and he is the file that we ensured was set up earlier. cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora The Oracle Listener now needs to be restarted. lsnrctl stop lsnrctl start OK, that's now started the Listener up again. So we have ensured that all the configuration files are set up correctly. The Listener and tnsnames.ora both set up OK. The final step is to create a link from the Oracle database to the "tnsnames.ora" entry. CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK ODBC CONNECT TO "test" IDENTIFIED BY "test" USING 'sqlsrv_ptr'; Right, that's all done. Let's access the data in SQL Server now. select * from [email protected]; Where 'demo' is the name of the SQL Server table and 'odbc' is the public database link name. OK, there we have the data. So to recap, I'm in Oracle and we have managed to read the data from SQL Server. Let's just add an additional row in that SQL Server table and retrieve the new data in Oracle. quit; /usr/local/easysoft/unixODBC/bin/isql.sh -v sqlsrv insert into demo values (2,'Easysoft') select * from demo select * from [email protected]; And there is the new data. Easysoft Limited can help you with your data access ... for our full range of ODBC and JDBC Drivers, Bridges and Gateways visit easysoft.com Be sure to let us know if you have any comments or questions. Until next time, thanks again and we'll see you again soon.

MySQL Workbench Database Export and Import

08:08
Learn Database Export and Import using MySQL Workbench. Open MySQL Workbench and logged in to MySQL database server using 'root' username and password. In previous couple of videos we learned how to Create, Alter, Drop Databases and Tables and also how to Insert, Read, Update, Delete data rows using MySQL Workbench. In this lecture we will learn how to Export and Import the database using MySQL Workbench. First of all to Export the databases or tables, from top menu 'Server' select 'Data Export' Option, which opens a new window of data export settings and options. The left section on the window displays all the existing databases on our MySQL database server. When we select a database by clicking on it, it displays all the respected tables under the selected database. We can select one or multiple database check-boxes to include the database in the Export file. Under 'Export Options' section, You can change the default export path of you choice. I'll keep the default one. By selecting first option that is 'Export to Dump Project Folder'. MySQL Workbench will save the save all tables as separate SQL file under one folder. Which is useful when you will be importing or restoring the export file one by one table. I'll go ahead quickly and first save as 'Export to Dump Project Folder', MySQL Workbench displays the progress bar and log. Now, I'll again export the database using 'Export to Self-contained File' option. To demonstrate the import first I'll delete the existing 'students' table under 'mytestdb' database. Display database details by clicking on 'i' symbol, select 'tables' tab. Select and right click 'students' table, and click 'Drop Table' option, confirm and delete the table. Click 'refresh' to update the tables section and we have no table in our 'mytestdb' database. Now select the database and from 'data import' window, select 'import from dump folder. 'Load folder contents' and select only 'mytestdb' database and click start import button to import 'students' table again. Go to 'mytestdb' database information window again and click 'refresh' button to reload table list again. and the 'students' table is back. Debugging sql server stored procedures

15:11
debugging in ssms debugging t-sql code t sql debug stored procedure sql server management studio debug stored procedure how to debug t sql debug in sql server management studio In this video we will discuss how to debug stored procedures in SQL Server. Setting up the Debugger in SSMS : If you have connected to SQL Server using (local) or . (period), and when you start the debugger you will get the following error Unable to start T-SQL Debugging. Could not connect to computer. To fix this error, use the computer name to connect to the SQL Server instead of using (local) or . For the examples in this video we will be using the following stored procedure. Create procedure spPrintEvenNumbers @Target int as Begin Declare @StartNumber int Set @StartNumber = 1 while(@StartNumber [ @Target) Begin If(@StartNumber%2 = 0) Begin Print @StartNumber End Set @StartNumber = @StartNumber + 1 End Print 'Finished printing even numbers till ' + RTRIM(@Target) End Connect to SQL Server using your computer name, and then execute the above code to create the stored procedure. At this point, open a New Query window. Copy and paste the following T-SQL code to execute the stored procedure. DECLARE @TargetNumber INT SET @TargetNumber = 10 EXECUTE spPrintEvenNumbers @TargetNumber Print 'Done' Starting the Debugger in SSMS : There are 2 ways to start the debugger 1. In SSMS, click on the Debug Menu and select Start Debugging 2. Use the keyboard shortcut ALT + F5 At this point you should have the debugger running. The line that is about to be executed is marked with an yellow arrow Step Over, Step into and Step Out in SSMS : You can find the keyboard shortcuts in the Debug menu in SSMS. Let us understand what Step Over, Step into and Step Out does when debugging the following piece of code 1. There is no difference when you STEP INTO (F11) or STEP OVER (F10) the code on LINE 2 2. On LINE 3, we are calling a Stored Procedure. On this statement if we press F10 (STEP OVER), it won't give us the opportunity to debug the stored procedure code. To be able to debug the stored procedure code you will have to STEP INTO it by pressing F11. 3. If the debugger is in the stored procedure, and you don't want to debug line by line with in that stored procedure, you can STEP OUT of it by pressing SHIFT + F11. When you do this, the debugger completes the execution of the stored procedure and waits on the next line in the main query, i.e on LINE 4 in this example. To stop debugging : There are 2 ways to stop debugging 1. In SSMS, click on the Debug Menu and select Stop Debugging 2. Use the keyboard shortcut SHIFT + F5 Show Next Statement shows the next statement that the debugger is about to execute. Run to Cursor command executes all the statements in a batch up to the current cursor position Locals Window in SSMS : Displays the current values of variables and parameters If you cannot see the locals window or if you have closed it and if you want to open it, you can do so using the following menu option. Locals window is only available if you are in DEBUG mode. Watch Window in SSMS : Just like Locals window, Watch window is used to watch the values of variables. You can add and remove variables from the watch window. To add a variable to the Watch Window, right click on the variable and select "Add Watch" option from the context menu. Call Stack Window in SSMS : Allows you to navigate up and down the call stack to see what values your application is storing at different levels. It's an invaluable tool for determining why your code is doing what it's doing. Immediate Window in SSMS : Very helpful during debugging to evaluate expressions, and print variable values. To clear immediate window type ]cls and press enter. Breakpoints in SSMS : There are 2 ways to set a breakpoint in SSMS. 1. By clicking on the grey margin on the left hand side in SSMS (to remove click again) 2. By pressing F9 (to remove press F9 again) Enable, Disable or Delete all breakpoints : There are 2 ways to Enable, Disable or Delete all breakpoints 1. From the Debug menu 2. From the Breakpoints window. To view Breakpoints window select Debug =] Windows =] Breakpoints or use the keyboard shortcut ALT + CTRL + B Conditional Breakpoint : Conditional Breakpoints are hit only when the specified condition is met. These are extremely useful when you have some kind of a loop and you want to break, only when the loop variable has a specific value (For example loop varible = 100). How to set a conditional break point in SSMS : 1. Right click on the Breakpoint and select Condition from the context menu 2. In the Breakpoint window specify the condition Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/debugging-sql-server-stored-procedures.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/debugging-sql-server-stored-procedures_28.html

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) has become the dominant data exchange format of the 21st century. As of version 12.1, Oracle Database offers powerful, flexible features for storing and querying JSON documents. In this video we show how the Oracle Database can be operated as a document store and documents can be searched by 'Query by Example' expressions, where the query itself is written in JSON. QBE's are provided by the SODA (Simple Oracle Document Access) Api which is available for REST and Java.
