HoloLens 2: inside Microsoft's new headset

Microsoft is making a new HoloLens headset, called HoloLens 2. But, it's only getting sold to companies, not consumers. Meant for professionals who work with their hands and not on computers, the new HoloLens has an improved field of view and doesn’t clip as much as the original. Dieter Bohn visited Microsoft’s campus to get an early look at the new HoloLens 2 headset. Do you think you could use the HoloLens 2 in your job?
Dj Tumbao (12 days ago)
It will be so awesome to work on music on the lents having different windows open so you don't hav to be closing windows because of limitation of space on the computer monitor also , maybe live sections recordings were you can be at the some room miles away at another studio , imagine having a virtual mixer were you can mix with your hands not with the mouse, and grabe and move the audio files with your hands , playing the virtual Keyboard for your virtual instruments and customizing the look and the feel of your environment every time you go to work, maybe also having virtual windows to give you the sensation you are were ever you wish to be, also maybe on security , having 360 cameras recording and now you can see everything in 3D on the lents or go back and forward and see details on stuff you were not able to see before , a lot of trainings in the future can be also true this Lents , the possibility's are infinite, maybe the Tech is not ready for all that right now but one day it will be

100%, not my job but for my business!

It's impressive but I don't think companies are going to buy it.
adambrian1969 (10 hours ago)
I look forward to using this on large construction projects some day
Yazdany Light (14 hours ago)
I think we will have a consumer version before 2025, is a whole new level of social interaction
Nathan Gowan (1 day ago)
I thouhh the point of this one was they were going to make it more accessible to the consumer, they did this by adding an additional $500 to the price....good move. On top of this you have an apple watch so you are wrong.
Dark Person (4 days ago)
This is nothing like SAO this is just a waste of money I'm pretty sure u won't be able to play games on this worthless tech
Alex B (7 days ago)
Are companies actually going to buy this. I mean they’ve been doing just fine without this technology
Bruce wagers (8 days ago)
Well no consumer set. Too bad.
AllozaBD (10 days ago)
Now we have mixed reality. Now we are one step closer to SAO lol
William Su (10 days ago)
This is what magic leap promises but cant deliver
Birdo Bots (10 days ago)
in a game development situation this would be amazing!
Bashar Sukkar (11 days ago)
I could use it in combination with ultrasound scanner
Swordkiller (11 days ago)
I never thought about the working aspect of these hololenses, really cool actually, most manual jobs could use them, and would probably increase productivity by a bunch aswell Doctors not needing to touch other things when working with them is pretty good, only the holograms. Also for painting, sculpting, any creative work could use them,
Soul0Stealer (11 days ago)
This might be intended for jobs. But for people who can afford it, I'm sure there are tons of benefits to it.
cryora (17 days ago)
So you're literally shining a laser in you're eye.
supreme loard (18 days ago)
What is there battery capacity
Zoopa (19 days ago)
I just want this thing 2 not run at 10 fps XD
Felipe S. (21 days ago)
Mixing this with *sex dolls* gives me tons of development ideas. One of them is adding sensors to a doll face and creating a face AI that interfaces with the doll making the experience very realistic.
Mona Essa (24 days ago)
This technology is actually great for the future Microsoft really changes the future they make advanced future technology I really like Microsoft good job guys 👍
O _ (25 days ago)
this should not be over $500
Boien Reyes (28 days ago)
hololens Still BIG & expensive!!!!! not worth. Its another epic fail. DEAR MICROSOFT WATCH THE SWORD ART ONLINE MOVIE SO THAT YOU CAN GET A CONCEPT ON THAT MOVIE. AR is the future
OrcbloodGaming (28 days ago)
Except this isn't VR. Also I'm glad someone is willing to push innovation and take financial risk. This technology will only add to a bridge to something much better.
Alex Shvartz (30 days ago)
You know I think it cloud be really good if they add speaker on the side so that you cloud have it all right there like head phones. That would make it better
Vân Bồ (30 days ago)
imagine that when Hololens is widely used in tourism and hospitality

Isn't any still pissed that the first HoloLens was advertised as a games console? Than they said the price $3000, it's not really for you!
Donato (1 month ago)
Sounds like opiuo

0:20 I can't buy it to start a company? Because I'm not already a company? Then why would I watch the video? Who is at work and on YouTube? You're fired.

we can use HOLO LENS in teaching new employees how to use the machines in the NATIONAL PRINTING PRESS OFFICE of the GOVERNMENT OF THE PHILIPPINES. and of course, other departments too can utilize this tech

Imagine if there is a crisis somewhere and there is a shortage of hospitals but someone has a HoloLens 2. Everyone could do simple surgery then.
Francisco Espinoza (1 month ago)
Imagine laser tag with these
Andrew Ross (1 month ago)
Could use this for 3dmodeling like 3dmax, blender3d etc also painting software

Most of the things that are being shown off seem like they could be pulled off by VR as well, so the only real applications I can see of this would be as a HUD for doctors, and for training for soldiers (which as far as I'm aware is the main way it's normally used for). When the tech gets cheaper, maybe soldiers could find use for it in the field. Engineering stuff seems like it would be just as easily pulled off by some autocad like application in VR, which is way cheaper right now with WMR headsets going for $200
Xø- Ñöt (1 month ago)
Ok so it’s for workers I respect that but what about us, where is our AR headset?
Bondy (1 month ago)
Possibly useful for product design.
riyan maredia (1 month ago)
verge can you make video of showing inside lens of HoloLens 2 and how does image actually looks and how bright
Melon Guy (1 month ago)
They better make this for everyone not just for workers
Bavani Sankar (1 month ago)
Yeah, I can wait a couple more years to use Hololens as a desktop replacement! Both for work and play!
BigChap J (1 month ago)
AR or MR is definitely more practical than VR.
tired2sleep (1 month ago)
This could be used at my job because I'm a first line engineer for fixing highly complex and sensitive machines with thousands of components
Thomas Perriment (1 month ago)
I work in infrastructure design and construction, I’d like to see this used on site to visualise designs in situ pre-construction.

This would be amazing for jobs such as aircraft mechanic's. Aircraft electricians usually are constantly referencing wire diagrams while troubleshooting problems, this would enable them to have the diagrams integrated with what they are looking at. Amazing potential!
Xavier Forest (1 month ago)
I'm getting skeptical with AR. We've seen google glass, magic leap and 1rst gen hololens fail or have no impact on consumer level. Of course you could do all those crazy stuff for specialised applications, if you throw millions at it. For now I just don't see the need of AR for the average consumer.
DOPROSPERITY (1 month ago)
When I showed to my 9 year old son this video he came up with so many areas of use, I could feel how much Microsoft are stepped ahead and managed to foresee the future... I am afraid but I have to buy 2 pieces now ))))

Mixed Reality is a great thing for businesses, especially when communicating about creation of hardware between countries. However, the technology is not ready yet. Give it a few more years and every business will be better off with a mixed reality headset.
Wesley Pipkin (1 month ago)
simulation and gaming is what most interests me. seems like a bad idea to stop targeting the people most likely to buy one
Diaming787 (1 month ago)
I just can't wait for the moment when the hololens would get even better with smaller sizes and cheaper prices, so much so that it becomes consumer level. Imagine the world where so many people wear them on daily seeing all of those AR renders
Panda FPV (1 month ago)
There’s nothing “IMPRESSIVE” about Microsoft selling these to the military to use to kill and destroy. I think you need to choose your words better.

For me it’s not practical. You can’t drive f1, survive on remote planet or kill zombies in it. With ps5 you will be able to.

20 years time there will be people walking around the streets with things like these. All connected, no more need for cell phones.

"Hololens was never meant to be a consumer product" *First Hololens literally showed Minecraft in the trailer and pulling a tv up to help guide you through cooking.*

I’d watch the Microsoft presentation if I was you this video alright but it was pretty good
Sir Oric0826 (1 month ago)
As a mechanic this would be awesome, if you where to see a hologram of something of how it’s suppose to be put together on the car itself, it would make putting stuff back together sooooo much easier.
Tony B (1 month ago)
I could use it for more than just my job. It can be used just to chill on the net and have a damn good time. Greedy. Make this consumer ready ASAP.
Brandon B (1 month ago)
I do 3D CAD design, I would love to have this product to project the model I'm working on into the middle of the room and I can move around the model and look at it in full scale (or smaller scale on bigger models) and look at fits or part interactions. If it can do that, it'd be amazing.
