It's kind of amazing to think that our global internet infrastructure rests upon these flimsy cables floating in the ocean. I know they're not that flimsy, but I mean, in the grand scheme they're pretty fragile compared to the forces of nature.

Orius25 They’re resting on the bottom in water that is barely moving.

Data 160 TB per second on my Windows 10 PC? That means my data can be real time synced with the NSA! Nice wire, M$. Let's see how long it lasts before ISIS decides to put a dent in your investment. They've nailed some of the undersea cables near Saudi Arabia in the last few years.

They wouldn't. I thought you were referring to Gates half-baked idea of launching satellites back in the 90s for internet connection. Thankfully they were being sued for breaking anti-trust laws at the time and the plan went nowhere. I could only imagine the hellhole the internet would have become if M$ got their grubby mitts on the wheel.

robertsd247 That was in support of hot air..... baloons, or drones. Before they got the later functional via ground base comm. Why would any engineer worth their salt do that.

Delayed. SpaceX blew up Facebook's satellite a few months ago. Remember when Muskco went to Twitter and asked for help as to why their rocket blew up, taking "Data Harvester I" with it?

It is slow
