Will this app accessible in Android phones??
MisterProzilla (23 days ago)
Not yet as of 2019, but there's an Android equivalent in beta called Envision AI with similar features (and a better default voice, imo). I think it's on Windows too.
Budar Endario (6 months ago)
I can use this app even when I’m not blind.

It’s good, it appears to think I’m 20 years older than I am most of the time. Don’t get this app if you’re suicidal.
Sideshow Kaz’ Stuff (11 months ago)
Love the idea but the advert for the app that’s going all over YouTube isn’t blind friendly. This on the other hand is. Please make that add more like this. We don’t all know french.
Marius Șucan (11 months ago)
Why is this not available on Android and Microsoft Store?!
MisterProzilla (23 days ago)
Try Envision AI, an Android equivalent that's currently in beta

OK I want how I get it

My suggestion is to bring this to windows at some point. Add it as an accessibility feature where if you hit a certain keyboard shortcut, it'll tell you what's on screen or what's in the image. Narrator on windows needs a lot of work, and this could help. For instence, I play video games and a lot of time I can't see texts that's on screen, so I pull out my phone and have it read to me with seeing AI.
Matt92 Machine (11 months ago)
This app is amazing. It's literally changed my life. Now I can read small text that I've never been able to see with a naked eye. What would be great are smart glasses that I could use it with, and just bypass my phone's camera. Great for anyone who can't afford KNFB reader. It does what KNFB reader does, while adding on money reading, and detection of bar codes. All of that in a free app with no ads.

Wonder this app will be available in android space? I appreciate your response.
BangDroid (1 year ago)
But jeezus, the voice to text is like Microsoft Sam's deadbeat daughter ..

There's an Android equivalent in beta called Envision AI, not as many features but the main stuff is there.

Can you help me?This application is so useful and my father and another blinds need to use this application!
Sourabh Rangdal (1 year ago)
Interesting. Correct me if I am wrong, for the next version (additionally) can developer come up with tech-shades for blind-users along with all necessary features which currently has in this application (for example google glasses), I believe its not that difficult because at present smartphone using device camera. With tech-shades users hands will be free just like normal users. No need to hold smartphone all the time and identify things around him.

Thank you AFB (American Foundation for the Blind) for informing your readers about it in AccessWorld - You guys rock!!! Some organizations talk about "changing what it means to be blind," others actually do it. - Thank you.

Thank you. I am a VIP and I downloaded the app last night. Looks like it's gonna be fun and very rewarding. Thank you again for this technology
Thus, the growing library of reference-object is born. Computer vision's future is surely bright.

You kill your own mobile operating system!
Heinz Mehrlich (1 year ago)
That's great. But why is it available in Germany and other countries? Please speak with Apple not too fence us out. But this could be only the first step. For visually impaired people hearing is not the only way to perceive. There should be visual enhancements and abstractions reflecting the different eye diseases. Perhaps there could be invented a special visual language, abstracting pictures like artists of impressionism didi. Please go further on this way. And this not only for humanitary reasons. More then 15 per cent of the population are handicapped. And, most of younger people will have to work out on their seventies. To be able to compete with others, to not to loose their dignity and liviing their own lives accessibility and modern techniques are indispensable.

So, do blind people need to press a button for specific use cases? Also what about the majority of the market - Android? Microsoft pretty much says Android owners must suffer?
Ruidong Li (1 year ago)
Edson Medina (1 year ago)
How will a blind person press those on-screen buttons?
MisterProzilla (23 days ago)
Turn on VoiceOver in iOS in Settings -> Accessibility. Now, a single tap on the screen will read out whatever is there (button, text, etc). Double-tap to select.

Imagine if I could mount my phone on the windshield w the app on and have it tell me/calculate for me how far away the car in front of me is or the ones along side are or the Exits and stop lights! Or even tell me how far away a car is from my rear bumper. People such as myself whom suffer from lack of depth perception or even individuals w narrow vision would WIDELY benefit from this type of technology, depending on its implementation!
rishab7846 (1 year ago)
This is already possible and widely used in self driving cars.

A bit slow when submitting images for OCR form here in Europe. Refuse to read french text with English accent -> model is only recognizing English text. So my blind father can't use it right now. @ Microsoft Any plan to make a localized french version?
MrAlextravaganza (1 year ago)
Please edit the: -"Heat up the tomato soup in microwave...". It suggest to put the metal can in the microwave. Seriously? Not cool, and very amateurish from such a name as Microsoft.
Matija Mondi Matovic (1 year ago)
This is very nice. I don't need it, thanks God, but I realy think that this is very nice and very important app.
RetardskillMe (1 year ago)
So how is a blind person gonna use a mobile phone in the first place?
MisterProzilla (23 days ago)
Recent versions of iOS, Windows & Android have built-in accessibility features (In Settings -> Accessibility). For the blind & partially-sighted, you've got things like screen magnification (ie zoom) and Screen Reading: when you tap an icon, instead of selecting, it reads it out first; you can then double-tap to select.
Koda Grey (1 year ago)
A friend just sent me this. As a blind person I want to say thank you so much Microsoft for designing such an application. This would be so useful to help me in my every day life!

Santarpan Roy (1 year ago)
Endy Prekpalaj haha. but, MS making great things.... just if they can make a mobile OS.
Senior Junior (1 year ago)
Santarpan Roy Yeah, true that. But you just need to enjoy the app as it is, maybe they are saving new voice for another version of the app. You can't give customers everything right away (Microsoft logic). 😁
Santarpan Roy (1 year ago)
hey man..I said this, only reason Cortana isn't robotic. it feels fully like a human voice... so, ms can do that with this app too
Senior Junior (1 year ago)
Santarpan Roy Of all the things you can do with the app, your only comment is robotic sound?! Damn.. No comment man..

why put it on iPhone tho...

Asiia Phan Because most of the blind population uses iPhones more than any other phone.

This is nothing new, Microsoft copied blippar and their will be more in store with Apple AR. Go back to sleep Microsoft and dream about pagers
DistantBlaze (1 year ago)
Of course they'd show it off on a iPhone... Further showing that they've completely abandoned those of us with Windows 10 Phones.
87solarsky (1 year ago)
That's Windows 10 Mobile! And it's not abandoned at all.

How can a blind man use a smartphone camera?
rishab7846 (1 year ago)
you're missing the whole point... you just point the phone in a general direction and the app describes whatever is in that direction.

Really Microsoft? iOS? Really? You should have used Windows Phone or at least Android, smh.
Koda Grey (1 year ago)
Frank Gilbert Correct. But for a while I remember it still not being as accessible as VoiceOver. A completely blind person couldn't use it to navigate a phone completely independently for its first few iterations.
Frank Gilbert (1 year ago)
Koda Grey, Talkback is at least 6 years old
Kidd Lorenz (1 year ago)
because the operating system of apple could carry much data than androids chip
Koda Grey (1 year ago)
I believe it's because many blind people use iPhones instead of androids. For a long time androids were completely inaccessible to those who needed screen readers. Only recently have they started to be a more viable option with the new screen reader Talk Back.
