japan is an hell on earth in reality. because many of japanese people hates foreigners , they consider them like outcasts , and their country is like a gigantic military casern with the billion of rules we would have to respect perfectly. whitout talking about the tsunamis , earthquakes , heats , volcanos etc. living in japân just sucks. it's a country which is only good to be visited quickly.

For those who have many complaints about Japan or Japanese!! They didn’t force you to come here!! You choose with your own self!!! It’s yours to blame!!! Not this country or their people!!!! If you don’t want here!!?? Why not leaving immediately!!?? No one going to stop you!!!!! And by the way!!!! You know how to blame or feel sad about yourself!? Did you ever think about those foreign people that come to your own country and get bullied by your own people!? Did you ever ask anyone how they are or how their living!? Or maybe in some reason if they need a help!? DID YOU!? How dare you to blame Japan and each people about your own failures!? 自分が日本に行くト自分が決めた時点で自分の責任だろうが! ふざけんな! ササット自分の国に帰れ‼️

Very enjoyable and informative. The producers hired a passive-aggressive music engineer, though: too loud; too repetively computerized; had to be supressed in places, hence some dialogue was lost. Otherwise, a first rate production. Thanks! Kudos!

Yeah but in japan there is tons of change and pressure and it,s all coming from women.

Okay, granted all those people make Japan out to be paradise on earth, but how do they even have the time to see all those great sights if everything is so expensive that you have to put in 16hr days just to buy food. Can you even stay there without having a "career" or field of study? What about a regular, boring job...how does the majority of the working class survive there?

Great doc. A lot of the comments seem to think that Happiness is not possible in Japan. I would suggest that to roam the world thinking you will find somewhere that makes you happy is an illusion. Happiness comes from within you. It is not poured into you from a culture or a country.

You don't hear of Japanese people coming to America and complaining about how things are, as do some of the millennial morons in this program. Makes me sick to think they're supposedly representative of American opinions. Well, let me speak for all the Japanese I know and love. If you don't like it, go home!
Petri Storlöpare (5 months ago)
I asked everybody to tell about both good and bad experiences they've had, and things that they liked, and didn't like about Japan.
Sarah Murdock (5 months ago)
I like Japan, but then again I like being free in America. No matter what country I look into no one is as free and we take advantage of that so much.
Paul L (5 months ago)
Americans even worst when it comes to not accept foreigners as americans. If you are not cocausians, even if you born in america, you still be treated as Asians, Latinos, 2nd class citizens. In Japan at least they are friendly to the foreigners.

Japanese people lie. Simple as that. They call it tattemae. To save your feelings. I call it BS, it's to save their feelings, not yours. The Tattemae is one of the worst things of Japanese life. You can never ever trust a Japanese person to tell you the truth. Asking them directly for an answer useless. You wont get the truth. The complicity is very bad. If something bad happened to you - you were attacked, robbed, ur company will distance themselves from you. They will say that your problem is causing THEM problems. This happens in most companies and groups, and it is complicit enabling. Weakness and silly, it happens all the time. The Japanese are really really immature. They have no emotional intelligence, and tend to act aggressive, childish, bullying and shouting every time they show upset. Even the police. A Japanese person will show his annoyance by standing closer to you, shouting louder and slower right in your face. I used to think it was endearing and cute, not I just think it's childish. Get a grip Japan.

i feel so sad after watching this video..... the kindness of the people and knowing how big of a shit hole my country is... and how bad people behave here in slovakia... makes me want to sell all my property and move to the traditional countryside house in japan and just inhale the tranquility for the rest of my life
Aman tripathi (6 months ago)
i can understand the sweet and sour feelings of ppl here. i never went to japan or any other country, but when different culture collide at normal day to day life, they give rise to this kind of emotions in both sides of ppls. Believe me i have lot of experience about these emotions, because my country name is enough"India", i can bet it is the most diverse country on earth. culture and languages changes faster then the taste of water in wells. Those sweet and sour feelings are temporary, they will go away as soon as you let go of your ego and inner doubts. thumbs up

I love Japan, because the Japanese thrive for newness and innovation. I lived in Europe where the old stuff don't appeal to me. They don't function, too slow, and obsolete. What is the point of preserving the old building if residents are not comfortable and feeling happy in it? Beats me.
ostmana1 (8 months ago)
WTF racist the film maker!!!!. why only westerners interviewed? most of foreigners living in Japan are asian!!!!!
ostmana1 (8 months ago)
good to know u had ever tried, sorry for my offensive words, could I keep them for someone may think similarly, actually I don't like be pictured either.....
Petri Storlöpare (8 months ago)
If you watched the film, you did notice that I mentioned numbers from different countries, and Asians had the highest figures? Why there is mostly westerners in the film is because I couldn't find any Asians who wanted to be interviewed. Except a Chinese, but she didn't want her picture taken.

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, the moral, ethical and decent thing to do when you find another persons property,is to return it or hand it to the police. So least the Japanese are teaching that man to not be a immoral deviant

That racism bit is 20% of what being black in America is like. I'm glad it happened. Gives people a taste of how fucked up they are to others when they are the majority. Humbles you and gets that chip off your shoulder.

Some of the criticism in video is actually more on a cultural thing and i dont its that bad compared to other countries. If you go to Japan do not expect that your Western ways will always be right.

In Japan they don't get taught an opinion, in the west we get taught an specific opinion and that it's only okay to have this specific opinion.
Petri Storlöpare (11 months ago)
Where did you get that idea from?
MΛX (11 months ago)
News flash: nobody cares about your racism complaints in Japan, Japan is the country of the Japanese they get to decide how they tread you because it's their country, if you are not okay with that go back to your country.

Japanese propaganda at its best. No other country hates foreigners more than this one. After 28 years here i can confidently tell you.
jp tomi (1 year ago)
Daks Malitz yes, their biggest achievement is staying homogeneous. There are descendants of Koreans here second or third generation brought here a slave power during Japanese occupation of Korea and they still don’t have Japanese citizenship or voting rights. On the other hand stupid rice paddy farmers once a year in a samurai helmet they could have never worn in the samurai period keep voting the same party into power for the last 70 years so they can sell their rice five times more expensive than it should be.
Ken narville (1 year ago)
you're so right , It Get. it's really risky to go there because of this homogeneity and this slavery
jp tomi (1 year ago)
John Smith they do take in immigrants and well exploit them. They just don’t provide them any rights or security even after decades of service provided here. This is the most selfish nation on this planet. The real planet of the apes.
John Smith (1 year ago)
They will have take in Immigrates sooner or later  . Look it up ,Japan has the lowest 1st world country birth rate in the world.  The country will be a nation of senior citizen soon.

A perfect documentary! I am very pleased & impressed with this program. It is very interesting & informative. I'm a huge documentary lover & wish there were documentaries available by the creator of this one regarding the life/experiences of expatriates living in host counties, the life style(s) of the citizens & it's culture(s) for many more countries on the planet. Thank you for making it & doing it so well! BTW, I'd love to visit Japan.

Good documentary, I'm going to live in Japan in a few months so this was great, I was surprised about the police stuff, they really need to change that I believe, regarding their treatment to foreigners for all the info I have gotten it seems like they have become more open now, but seems like the part about japanese not liking to discuss about things like religion and politics stands true, but because they don't want to argue, they don't like fighting, well hoping my experience in Japan will be a positive one!

a very unique culture in it self like many other unique countries...yet as a human being living in this country, Japanese also falls into the human error drama.they deny or hide their past history of misconduct of other countriesthey are spoiled brats given from the past prolonging towards the future...and they have a psychopathic structural mentality again from past and prolonging towards future....based on these ideology, Japanese are no special culture as say Tibet, Timor, Siberia, Iceland, congo, or other remote country/culture...they are just another face in the crowd....

If I'd go to Japan my main reason for going there is the Japanese food (sushi and sashimi). Though I can eat those food in the Japanese restaurants in other countries, there is nothing like the real ones in Japan (ekiben) sold at train stations!

As you get closer to closer to Japan, you'll it interesting, fascinating, etc. Until, when you get to the core, you find it hollow. And that is Japan, the details, the beauty is on the surface, not in the core.

Western Europe is frightened by terrorism. In the United States, hatred and liberalism and nationalism strike each other and shoot with guns. And in a safe country, the Japanese know news about the terrorist attacks in Western Europe and the shooting incidents in the United States.
