247 ratings | 394969 views
First responders, teachers, police: These are some among the many critical people who contribute to the health of our communities in Seattle and the Puget Sound region, and they are being priced out. The area faces a homelessness problem and rising housing costs that have increasingly pushed out people with lower and middle incomes. That’s why Microsoft is contributing $500 million to help address the affordable housing crisis on the Eastside of King County and the Puget Sound region. Going to plaster this everywhere: Yes, I would absolutely love to change my microshit password for the billionth time because you fear a security concern that doesn't exist. I would rather give my password to every Russian on the planet than to have to come up with another string of characters just to please your bothersome ass.

Stop letting foreign nationals buy property in the US, don't live here can't buy property here. Would help more than whatever nonsense Microsoft is pretending to do here.

Even we're a global company, we are still deep rooted in our local community. This is an awesome way to say "thank you" to the locals who support our business.

If housing was cheaper, people would be able to live closer to their jobs; less commuting.
Trillo (1 month ago)
Can't really just make commute somehow faster though, so you provide housing workers can actually afford and move the people nearer their jobs so they don't have to commute.

Drastically increase the housing supply and watch the prices fall. Simple...
J C (1 month ago)
How do you increase supply enough to make an impact in an already saturated area? Furthermore, increasing supply enough to make an impact on pricing, in such a short amount of time, would require faster production, lower production costs, leaner production teams, etc. Ultimately decreasing quality of the product. This would drive pricing based on quality, rather than supply. Affordable but shitty... yay. Great idea! Prices on housing are not expensive because demand is higher than supply. They are expensive because of speculation on what the market will want.

Nice! Having more affordable housing is great! Good on Microsoft!

True. You can earn 200k a year and still have to live in a house meant for half of that money earned. It seems like people who should be living rich 10th percentile lives live middle class lives, if they want to live in a safe neigborhood and people who are middle class, earning 70-100k a yeat have to resort to apartments and small homes. This might be different in some areas but in some more wealthier areas of wahington, definately and the people who do the most work in this city live with the least. I´m happy to live a nice household but when I first noved here I definately saw the huge gap, where there didn´t seem to be a healthy middle class

The general cost of housing is outrageous in the US in some places. My whole state, aside from really unsafe areas, cost way too much for what you get. It needs regulation.
Any Ony (1 month ago)
Would love to see more regulation, because a big part of the elevated prices in expensive areas comes from speculation. More taxes on flippers, more taxes on foreign buyers, no more tax breaks for people taking out mortgages for 2nd homes, etc.
