Jimi Hendrix Spanish Castle Magic Lick

328 ratings | 36893 views
http://MasterGuitarAcademy.com a Hendrix style lick from Spanish Castle Magic. A six-note lick that works great to just repeat over and over. Jimi used this lick a lot. It's just the minor pentatonic scale being used, and Jimi Hendrix used this scale a lot in his solos. The best way to get a feel for Hendrix style guitar is to listen to his albums a lot, preferably with headphones. Immerse yourself and listen actively. The "feel" is the key thing to pick up. He had a deep emotional connection with his music, and you must listen to him a lot if you expect to be able to pick up some of that. Hendrix Lesson by Robert Renman. Robert, thanks for taking the time to create this lesson(and all you others). I seem to have a problem with the ringing of the G and D strings due to slight contact with them while bending the first note on the B string with my ring finger. You have no problem with this. All you hear are the B and E string notes. Any ideas on how to prevent(or mute) this?
Robert Renman (1 year ago)
+Greg Flagg use both hands to mute.

So this song is in Half Step Down tuning am I correct? Are you playing in standard?
Mike Ratcliffe (3 years ago)
I'm still kind of new...but shouldn't you be referring to that as the E Major Pentatonic box 1 as it relates to the song spanish castle magic?
Joshua Zolten (11 months ago)
Mike Ratcliffe it is also C# minor pentatonic. Relative minor and major keys. In other words same key signature... all the same pitches!

Bisous

Robert, What over drive are you using on this video? Thanks!
Robert Renman (4 years ago)

That was a cool lick to add to my suffering lead skills...lol I have used that up and down the neck without sounding to mundane. By the way,who mooded your Marshall...Fortin?
Robert Renman (4 years ago)
+JCB4021 No, Afternote Music in Edmonton. The mods are not hard to do, and all the info needed for doing them are on the jvmforum website. I just told the tech to follow the instructions I found on that site...

I'd love to see you do some more Hendrix stuff. Especially licks and tricks like this that are rarely covered but were a huge part of Jimi's playing.
Robert Renman (4 years ago)
I would like to do more.
V4Valdes (4 years ago)
hi, why the JVM?  aren't there better suited amps for bluesy crunchy overdrive ?
Robert Renman (4 years ago)
+V4Valdes Because I just got it back from being heavily modded, and now it sounds much better than before. It works great at any volume now.
